Realistically I'd say the crew murdering friendly wizards is enough of a deterrent. Also what about a spell that enables *breathein/*breatheout in a short range, or to a single target.

Shards made out of tier1 gems (if it sparkles, it's tier1) deal 31 damage and remove 31 blood from anyone you hit. Plasmaglass shards do 20.
