more uses for plasma
#1
plasma! we're supposed to be researching this shit, among other things, right? too bad all we've found it to be good for is killing ourselves with, mostly.

so lets cook up some uses for it, so we can shoehorn it into other departments and help them get burnt down more often

plasma as medical treatment:
1. hook it up to the cryo pods alongside the current o2 tank, in order for the cryo pods to function. who knows what will happen? only good things, im sure.
2. have some of the stranger diseases be randomly treatable by plasma inhalation or injection of liquid plasma from chem dispensers.
3. mutations that have synergy with plasma other than being able to withstand the inevitable roaring fire. for example, a mutation that makes plasma into a super sweet stimulant or healing agent once your body is adapted for it.

bada boom, we are now researching medical applications for plasma!

engineering applications for plasma, other than as burning fuel or... demolitions:
1. obviously, the arc smelter could require a plasma tank to be hooked up for it to function properly.
2. make plasma glass great again
3. is plasmastone a worthwhile material to make alloys with? hell if i know, but it should be! plasma is supposed to be a wonder-substance. if research with oil gave us space-age plastics, who knows what wonders materials research with plasma can bring?

more fun with plasma?

use it as a wonder plant fertilizer, inject it into monkeys to make them your friend that follows you around, invent plasma-glass-lens glasses that let you see wraiths, go hog wild

worried about fires? dont be! an improved fire suppression system http://forum.ss13.co/showthread.php?tid=5415 will help make plasma fire-related maimings and fatalities a thing of the past

I've always thought it would be cool to have a highly addictive and not that good for you chem that artificially inflates your genetic stability while inside your system, so we could have a nice Bioshock thing going on

Some kind of plasma/blood/drug mix could be fit that

Do air mixtures have different effects based on composition when breathed in? Like. does a 5/95 plama to oxygen ratio do less tox then say an all plasma mix would?

Plasma as pod fuel?

It's already used as pod fuel. Crowbar a pod and take out the fuel tank.

It would be interesting if plasma had some kind beneficial effect when breathed in, but was still highly toxic. So you'd have to make mixes that contain only small amounts and treat the tox damage as it builds up.

those little orange plasma tanks are neglected, too, in every other context than as a bomb piece.

does the pod fuel tank ever need to be refilled? could it increase pod speed if you mixed some oxygen in at the cost of it burning out the fuel faster?

does using a plasma/air or plasma/oxy mix in a flamethrower's propellant tank cause any kind of difference?

Yes.

Flamethrowers actually put the gasses you use into the atmosphere. Plasma is a pretty good way to cause additional fires.

damn thats great. we should try to break out the plasma more often when there is blob trouble

maybe make welding tools upgradeable to run on the little orange plasma tanks and fuck up walls super quick

Having plasma in cryo pods wouldnt be cool, every round ever someone would enter the not very secure medbay and release the easily obtainable plasma. It sounds funny at first but it will get incredibly annoying

loading rocket shoes with plasma/oxygen should have explosive results

also for fun you should be able to huff plasma directly from the tank

Inb4 someone makes an ideal plasma oxygen mix for huffing.

im aware of the risks, which is why i linked the improved fire alarms/sprinkler systems thread as well, to imply that propagating plasma around the station should come after such an improvement

if that isnt secure enough, a little redesigning of the rooms could put the plasma tank and hookup for it in a nice sturdy little room accessible only by the md and other heads, making setting up the cryo pods an actual responsibility for an md to perform

It also wouldn't be cool because the whole reason the oxygen is there is so the people in the cryo pods can breathe.

Although plasma in the cryo pods may not be a good idea, plasma does need SOME kind of new purpose because of toxins. Right now, whenever you do toxins you are 95% of the time going to make bombs and blow stuff up, and the remaining 5% will be giving engineering fuel (wow what an exciting job). This leads to people staring down toxins for the round looking for an excuse to fuck them up, lest they blow up their precious station. It's hard to think of some other purpose for plasma but there's gotta be some other purpose put in because most of the time when someone competent is doing toxins, they're probably a traitor.

And that concludes my rant about toxins, hopefully something is done about this.

edit: by more uses, i generally am refering to superheated plasma since I'm talking about toxins soecifically.

We need more beneficial uses for superheated plasma that can be sabotaged.  Like the engine is pretty much it for right now and the way the station is built it generally doesn't affect much outside the ptl hallway.  Maybe some advanced pod systems could require a canister of it or like have it be a different kind of fuel cell for borgs , so that yeah shit may still blow up but it's more thematically appropriate.  We blew up the earth fucking around with plasma, yet we still use it.  Our hubris will strike again
