Some ideas for blob
#1
  • Make blob tiles traversable, but with a movement penalty. Exceptions for certain tiles like defensive walls
  • Upgrades increase the penalty, cause burn damage while inside blob tiles, allow infusing blob tiles with collected chems to add chem on touch effect to blob tiles
  • Absorption occurs passively within blob tiles, at a slow but steady rate. Any item, player, or critter in a blob tile will be absorbed by it.
  • Faster absorption of materials can be done on a special tile that vacuums things on blob tiles to it, like a gravity artifact
  • Absorbed players can choose to help the blob by holding players still on blob tiles
  • Things absorbed by the blob add to it's resource count
  • Tile generation relies on resources absorbed in the same way general manufacturers rely on materials to build items
  • Nuclei act as storehouses for the resources collected. Blob growth depends on building more nuclei to hold newly acquired resources.
  • Nuclei connected by blob tiles pool their resources in tile creation, allowing you to build tiles in one area with materials absorbed from another
  • The more "full" of resources a nuclei is, the more "robust" it is, with a higher health cap and damage absorption. The first spawned nucleus is already resource full

Absorbing people should also be done piece-by-piece. Absorbs limbs and organs until they're small enough to be fully absorbed. Takes about the same amount of time to fully goovore someone, but it's less of a whoops-yer-ded instakill thing.

If piece by piece absorbtion happens I feel like it should prioritize legs first. Different foot coverings can provide different protection, but can be destroyed first. No foot covering, lose a leg. Simple shoes get eaten quickly. Galoshes less so and magnetic or mechanized boots can last longer?

Give blobs butts so they can fart.
Also ears and mouths so they can communicate.

Each of these costs an evo point.

this is bad because it would let people just walk right up to the nucleus

You'd get absorbed

do clothes have a durability or HP stat wherein if they take damage in separate instances it can add up? if so then standing in it too long is still damaging. If its simply time based over one instance of standing in it thats different and less effective. Would the overtime calculation be too intensive with multiple spessman?

They don't.

Thinking about it, the blob has a lot of abilities, resources, and other things to keep track of. I feel consolidating abilities together would be a good way to go

Like, there's no need to have an absorb power and a devour item power when you could just have one that does both. Or, as suggested, a passive devour ability

no you wouldn't because people would just walk inside and smoke radium, killing even more gigantic portions of the blob than they do currently

On that topic there should be an upgrade similar to the fire resist that effects all the tiles and protects blob somewhat from radium smoke and its ilk

Or load up their backpacks with candles and become nearly untouchable.

There is, it's just that dirty bombing can overpower it still.

Really part of the problem with the blob in general is that it requires way too many evo points to have a real fighting chance.
