Pathology disease ideas
#16
I'm not sure adding things will help pathology. There are already helpful systems relatively easy to get, but adding more things to pathology only complicates it further. I could get t5 generally in 25-30 minutes, if you add 5 more t5 diseases, you know you're going to get a t5 but don't know which one, so you're a medical doctor that just wasted 30 minutes getting fire gib.

Keeping the helpful things at t3, which is where all the healing diseases are currently, is a good place. Adding a whole bunch of extra stuff to this rng machine is a horrible idea imo. It's not like chemistry where you just make you small sunglasses disease, you kind of just have to hope rng blesses you and allows you to make it off the starting or buy more vials which is a minor inconvenience.

This is a SUPER valid point, but it feels like it could be somewhat negated by making sure our ideas are balanced, like if it's a SILLY symptom it's a tier 1 or 2, if it's a inconvenient/mildly useful symptom a 3, etc. etc. etc.

Does that seem valid?

Bumpin this old thread instead of posting this elsewhere
  • Lesser Lycanthropy: A disease that occasionally turns you into a dog. Low tier causes hairiness
  • Phantom Limb: Gives ghosts control over your arms and legs. Resist to regain control. Tier levels influence how effective that is
  • Honkington's Heel: Makes you make clown shoe noises while you walk. Higher tier symptoms include tripping
  • Color Blindness: Affects your ability to see colors. Low tier limits changes things to a duller palette. High tier makes everything black and white
  • Bird Flu: Replaces your scream with clucking sounds and occasionally leaves an egg behind when you fart. Higher tiers increases the chance, leaves easter eggs
  • X Allergies: Makes you allergic to a chems or food. Higher tiers make the allergies more severe and even fatal

grewp's disease: your fingernails and toenails fall out and clutter up the place, yuck

floater's disease: causes those weird floaty things inside your eyeballs to become more noticeable and therefore intrusive

excessive sweating: got damn. youre making the damn floors wet with all that sweat! people are slipping! ugh!!!

atrophy: your character makes annoying gasping and grunting sounds when running, will only stop once you slow down or stand still or buckle into a chair or lie down for a bit

I'm definitely using some of these as inspiration.

How about just implementing noah's patch already

One that causes you to warp gravity, like artifacts can do.

Cut this shit out. Merging patches isn't easy and Coders don't have limitless free time. All this is doing is making them not want to bother.

  • Poliosis or "Equine Spine": Grows a horse mask and can now only crawl on the floor on all fours, albeit at a faster pace . Walk and Run become Trot and Gallop. Early signs are a clomping noise when you walk and involuntary neighing
  • Prosopagnosia: Face Blindness, or the inability to place a name to a face. People's names are randomized upon each instance of examination
  • Tinnitus: You hear a mild ringing noise when in the absolute silence of space
  • Echolalia: Involuntary repetition of speech heard
  • Grandpa hands: Sometimes performing an action with your hands will be repeated up to 3 times due to shaking.
  • Lead Feet: Your feet gain an unnatural mass for their size. You become an immovable  object and can't be pushed, pulled, or grabbed. Makes space travel impossible
  • Bubble Gut: Makes you incredible fragile to brute damage attacks above a certain number. Reach past that number and be instantly gibbed. Early symptoms are lots of burps and farts

From an old Pathology thread of mine found here: https://forum.ss13.co/showthread.php?tid=7289 . It has some other relavent ideas as well.
  • Quicker clotting - T2 symptom that causes wounds to close more quickly.
  • Instant clotting - T4 symptom that causes wounds to close immediately.
  • Blood regeneration - T3 symptom that helps to replace lost blood up to a healthy level.
  • Limb regeneration - T4 symptom that regrows limbs over time.
  • Overdrive - T2 symptom that increases your walk/run speed as if you had the chewed-up running shoes on. May require food in your system to sustain the speed.
  • Resurrection - T5 symptom that will bring you back to life once. Upon this happening the disease is burnt from your system and you become immune. Requires the body to remain mostly intact.
  • Better Healing - T4 and/or T5 versions of the various damage healing symptoms. Improves both amount healed and speed of healing. (It might be worth having a whole range of healing symptoms similar to how fever and chills works.)
  • Rad Healing - T4 symptom that takes radiation and causes it slowly heal you instead of harm you as it decays. (The more that you heal in this manner the more your avatar looks like he's rotting.
  • Electric Healing - T4 symptom that heals you when you get shocked. The more shock there is the more you heal.
  • Slowed clotting - T2 symptom that slows the body's ability to naturally clot wounds.
  • No clotting - T4 symptom that causes the body to be unable to be unable to naturally clot wounds.
  • Blood destruction - T4 symptom that kills off blood cells resulting in hypotension.
  • Blood overproduction - T4 symptom that causes too much blood to be made resulting in hypertension.
  • Honking - T4 symptom that causes honking and transmits the disease to all that hear the honking. The range of this transmission is large - notably bigger than even farting.
  • Swollen Feet - T2 symptom that causes currently worn shoes to be stuck in place. If no shoes are worn new shoes may not be added.
  • Swollen Hands - T2 symptom that causes currently worn gloves to be stuck in place. If no gloves are worn new gloves may not be added.
  • Swollen Head - T3 symptom that causes currently worn headgear to be stuck in place. If no headgear is worn new headgear may not be added.
  • Vomiting - T2 symptom that causes vomiting and transmits the disease through touch.
  • Green Vomit - T4 symptom that causes the infected to spew green vomit which transmits the disease through touch.
  • Confused Intent - T3 symptom that randomly causes you to change intent.
  • Partial Blinding - T3 symptom causing moderate eye damage.
  • Blinding - T5 symptom that slowly makes you go blind.
  • Partial Deafness - T3 symptom that makes you only hear shouting.
  • Deafness - T4 symptom that slowly makes you go deaf.
  • Clowning Around - T5 symptom that turns the infected into cluwnes. This will help us get further away from the old viruses.
  • Meat Cube - T5 symptom that eventually turns the infected into meat cubes.

Also we seriously need to come up with a method of hunting down generally good and generally bad symptoms. Being able to hunt down specific symptoms could easily be OP but being able to guide your pathogen research between good, neutral, and evil would be good.

All of these are great. As a small idea/question, with the slowed and no clotting symptoms, would this affect bandages and styptic powder clotting? Its my vague understanding that IRL many clotting medications are less effective. I would love for a hemophiliac virus that makes it so people cannot stop bleeding without 10+ patches in addition to bandages and the entire station covered in blood pooling to our ankles.

But thats just me maybe

Frank_Stein... "Prosopagnosia: Face Blindness, or the inability to place a name to a face. People's names are randomized upon each instance of examination --- Echolalia: Involuntary repetition of speech heard"

I really like these two.

If you're in Toxins you might just wanna blow up some martians. Pathology requires 'human' vectors so you're either killing the station or learning how.

I think it would be neat if pathology was given a CRISPR method to distribute genetics pathologically.

It would open up horrible mutations to pathology viruses, but would also give pathologists a reason to create diseases since you could release a virus that deals with the lack of oxygen, or weaponizes the crew against an external threat.

Tiny hat-itis: any hat you wear becomes tiny. Space helmets crush you to death

Nanovirus: only affects borgs, randomly gives ion storm laws or tells them to spread the virus

Dance fever: using the dance emote makes everyone around you use the dance emote like in that moonwalker game

Hives: always gib on death, gibbing spawns space wasps
