It's that time of they year when we rant about security.

With the more work on the brig deal...I would like to see security have a shuttle that leads to either the scrap area or the mining Z-level.The prisoners are given picks and special security suits that work like the electropacks. Why should centcom house and feed prisoners when they can put them to good work!

Having tried sec a few times over the last few days, I can understand why there's a lack of security officers - it's squarely landed on my Unwanted list after a few rounds because it's just not fun. You're the number one target for everyone to fuck with, using any of the tools at your disposal will only encourage them to fuck with you more, and you don't really have anything better to do but wander back and forth along the halls and lobbies chatting with people and/or getting nonlethally fucked with. I haven't even had to use the security tools; the Stun Baton's sole purpose seems to be to occupy your belt slot so you can't stick your air tank in it. Sec isn't HORRIBLE, but I found myself being ticked off every time I rolled Sec instead of one of the other jobs on my list, so that meant it was time to take Sec off the list. Being prioritized for death by traitors and singled out for annoyance by anyone who thinks they're funny gets old really fast, but take those away and all Security has to do is getting robusted by C-sword rampagers and roleplaying a mall cop.

Maybe some of this (or even all of it) isn't true, but it's the first impression of a new security officer. It feels like I'm giving up the ability to do interesting things in exchange for a big red "COME HARASS ME" sign, a pile of stun weapons I'll almost never have justification to use, and modestly-effective armor for people to pick off my corpse after the fire dies down.

This is the main reason I don't play security as much anymore as well. People love to pick on you even when they aren't antagonists, it also isn't uncommon to see security officers getting blatantly murdered and nobody come and help them.

Here's a possibly stupid though, what if security did a double function, in responding to things like crew injuries. Give them a medical scanner on their pda and perhaps an ephinephrine injector so they can escort someone to the doctor a bit faster.

Possibly and in all likelyhood probably horrible idea: Electro-Armor.

If somebody tries to disarm you and is not wearing insulated gloves, they are stunned like they were touched with stungloves. Craftable, with materials to shockify 2 vests starting in security. Would introduce some risk to randomly robusting sec, and would at the least make you think twice about taking them on without much of anything in the realm of gear.

One which will have weapons, armor, and all the modern weaponry and bullshit.

The other will be styled after the police of the United Kingdom. No weapons, just a dapper hat and a vest.
Having a second team of officers would actually help a great deal. Just like there are lesser traitors, there can be lesser security.
And they would help a lot with keeping the peace between the crew when heated debates gets out of hand.

I do this. You start with a medkit in sec, and our job is first and foremost to protect the people of the station, not kill those dirty redsuits. Usually, when I play security, I fill a medkit with as much potent healing as I can, and prioritize keeping people alive and safe.

If we're making the station into space london, can we make it easier for humans to browse the station's camera network?

Pepper spray: Capsaicin shot out from can, faster than a spray bottle, and maybe adjustable like a hypospray.
Fucks with your eyes, and/or makes you cough and drop stuff.

If "shooting" pepper spray is too OP, perhaps you would need to be within a tile of them, and target their face to apply some capsaicin.

This is the best mentality to have as Sec, even though it's just as likely to get you killed as anything else, at least people will be more likely to return the favor if you've been helping them out. Remember, you're a defender, not an assault squad. Serve and protect and all that jazz. The more helpful you try to be, GENERALLY the more it'll be returned in kind. You're trying to help people not keep them oppressed.

More importantly, we also have more discreet costumes now, so you can be an undercover cop and draw less attention to yourself that way. Better than having a big red target on your back.

throw in like 3 Corporate Policy Officers under the HoP who get body armour, green suits with a red stripe, a hat, and the ability to hand out fines and tickets

their job is to ensure that Corporate Workplace Guidelines are followed to the letter and strictly penalize anyone found in violation of NT policy

if they spot a traitor their job is to throw their hat at them and run away before they get shot

Nothing stopping you from doing that now as a regular security officer.

Honestly this mentality needs to be ingrained in new people who play sec for the first time. Aside from the regular space law stuff that is on the wiki page, I think a section about the right mentality needs to be added. Something like how being and unfun Gestapo like super cop is more likely to get you beaten than acting like a cool headed cop.

I'll get cracking on that "Good cop vs bad cop" on the wiki, will post back here before submitting. If anyone has anything to contribute, let me know.

On second thought, after reading the wiki page, the security page is a bloated mess of words words words. It's over-complication, and generally poor presentation
Alot of the "priority" arrest procedures is out-dated and often strict, some of the advice is pretty damn ambiguous, some of the stuff needs to be updated. It could do with some visuals on enemys and how to deal with them instead of the "arrest procedures"
As I said previously, I'll post a mock-up here before actually dealing with the page.
