The Big Ol' Shuttle Thread*

*(May not be big after all??)

THE SHUTTLE
Erev Wrote: Wrote:Budget Shuttle - Free!
This shuttle may begin falling apart and inflight repairs may be required to reach CentComm. In addition the older faulty engines mean a longer time to reach station and return to Centcomm. (Random 10-15 minute arrival time to station and random 2-4 minute station to CentComm jump.)

Premium Shuttle - $75,000!
This serviceable shuttle will reliably get you to CentComm barring any interruption that may arise from, say, a Syndicate agent with bombs. (Normal arrival and departure windows.)

Deluxe Shuttle - $500,000!
You have it made and your shuttle will make it too! Made of invulnerable patented Unobtanium this is essentially the current shuttle. It arrives quick and arrives at Centcomm on time. (5 minute call instead of 10).

A gold-plated version of the deluxe shuttle with leather couches instead of shuttle seats. Includes a mini-bar and inertial dampeners (no knockdown if not buckled in during launch) to ensure a relaxing flight.

ITS PASSENGERS
http://forum.ss13.co/showthread.php?tid=6894 REALLY JUST THIS ENTIRE THREAD

ITS DESTINATIONS
<Nnystyx> yeah garbage shuttle should be at no cost, no ticket system etc.
<stimusz> it goes to a random place in the debris field maybe??????
<shotgunbill> nnystyx: imagine a vacation shuttle, where crew with enough money could purchase a ticket to a beach-like paradise

SUMMARY
Okay so long story short: crew has to pay for their shuttle. I think this should just sort of become a recognized thing. Better shuttles = more costly. Crew also possibly has to pay for a ticket to get on the shuttle. Pricier tickets might have better seating, who knows?

<Nnystyx> it'd go like, tier and cost wise: Garbage Hobo Shuttle < Normal Shuttle <= Custom/Theme Shuttle < Nice Shuttle < Extravagant Luxury Shuttle

The "theme shuttle" would be something like a beach inside, or a snowy wonderland, or made out of horrid flesh. For variety it'd be at similar or slightly higher costs than the normal shuttle.

And finally, the crew, possibly through the help of the HoP, the Captain, or vendors selling a map, could go to different places like a swanky vacation planet instead of boring ol' Centcomm. Of course, this'd all be a wonderful sink for the station's overflowing moolah.

This thread is basically meant to serve as a discussion & consolidation zone for several threads' worth of information relating to what we could potentially do about the shuttle: its design, its passengers, and where it goes. A way to shake up the end of the round without fucking things up too bad.

Maybe the station should start with enough money to buy the regular shuttle by default, so that the hoboshuttle ends up being the result of hilarious embezzlement shenanigans.

All the money is funneled into Genetics/the Captain's gambling problem/betting on crab fights and so the crew has to make it home with the shitty hobo shuttle that has basically a pendulum instead of a navigation system

There should be a 50/50 chance they actually make it to centcomm or land somewhere else entirely, and then a smaller chance they just straight up explode shortly after they get there (so it doesn't interfere with objectives)

now people might actually care that the hop and cap put all the stations funding into there bank accounts and then blows it all on black jack and booze

I'm down with it so long as the HoP gets another thing to do.

Or when the head of personnel spends the entire station budget on bees

That's when you buy a bee shuttle pass from Bombini, because it's all gone to hell anyway.

It'd be nice to have loads of different locations for the shuttle to go to and explore. Maybe bad navigation could result in the shuttle ending up at syndicate command, full of hostile armed syndicate NPCs.

On the idea of selling tickets, have there be vendors for tickets around the station, that charge very high prices. But the Hop can sell tickets for a custom price from his PDA or at customs.

Heads could set the target for the shuttle to some presets/randomized stuff, then some special areas could be accessed with maps from vendors/telesci/etc.

And then you have the "emergency" ticket stations vs the HoP selling tickets, I think that'd be nice-- technically he commands the civilian jobs but they just do their own thing anyway, so forcing him to be relevant would be nice

EDIT: Honestly I wish we could convert the bottom left and right corners of the bar into like, a bazaar or something where NPCs would spawn to visit periodically, just wander around and gibber or sell you stuff. The merchant shuttles can come VERY rarely (sometimes in excess of like 30 minutes) and some more randomized stock & options would be great.

Literally nobody uses those tables.

That give me an idea.
What if all the debris field merchants had passes or something for sale that you could insert into a commaster console to unlock additional shuttles?
  • Bombini would have a bee shuttle that is made of that hive-stuff you find at the bee factory and has a few bees wandering it
  • The martian merchant could sell a martian shuttle made from that weird martian bio-mechanical stuff and piloted by friendly martians.
  • The old medibot you find on the medical satellite could sell an old shuttle (Though still better than the hobo shuttle) that has a larger medical area with more sleepers and healing items.
  • The shady robot at the diner would sell a stolen military shuttle with no windows or chairs and crates full of weapons and other military equipment, for turning the shuttle into thunderdome.

in some thread i proposed that the default shuttle could have cargo/coach/first class divisions and you pay to get into the better parts and upgrade your seating/have any seat at all. please consider this element too i liked it

I'd be all for increasing the shuttle size dramatically to accommodate misto's idea of different compartments. It'd make fights on the shuttle a little less confined by space, as well as look cool.

Thirded on increasing shuttle size, having different class compartments.

The compartments can still be tied to themes and other shuttle variations. For instance, a beach themed shuttle can have a beach for coach, a cabana bar in first class. Steerage is just filled with ocean water and crabs

Fourthed on increasing shuttle size and having more/more flexible compartments. Though when/if increased, I'd like it to protrude out a bit further so that we don't lose the lobby & the pod docks, the latter has saved my life numerous times by hopping in a pod to avoid a breach

A++ on themed compartments too

The problem with NEW AREAS for the escape shuttle to reach is that the locations would have to be fairly small because otherwise there's no point in going to them since there's a lack of time to explore.

That said a vacation shuttle that charges exorbitant amounts for vacations could be fun, as long as being on vacation counts towards antag objectives.
