You already don't need a PIN to use the swipe machines. I've used it a few times to strip peoples bank accounts after winning fights/eating them as a changeling.

Research/development > Payroll budget > QM Budget ^> Centcom/nanotrasen > Research/development A guy gets paid, he spends cash on vending machines, Job equipment, Food, and personal stuff from QM. All the cash that gets spent goes to QM where he hands out loans, orders equipment and the personal stuff. The cash that goes to Centcom stays there as there profit. If we bring back research profits we can earn back as much cash or even more that was spent with Pod manufacturing, research, and the stuff sold from Botany, electronics. ect . Actually doing our jobs as a research station should be more profitable. This way we don't have to rely on others and can make a profit on our own. Just to clear thing's up, by research profits I mean $10,000 for reaching tier 3 of robotics.ect

The absolute best part of this idea is the burnable money.
You can have a harcore traitor run around the station, steal EVERYBODY's money, empty EVERYBODY's accounts and then pile it all together in the middle of the market and set it alight with a cigarette you just finished smoking, watching as all the staff assistants desperately jump onto it trying to put it out and subsequently being burned alive. Please make this happen.

i tried to set up a toll bridge at the air bridge on the new station, i was promptly (and rightfully so) taken down a few pegs by the sec team and some angry assistants.
but yeah, new incentives for uses of money would be great. Something that has been suggested before is a PDA app store which would be great. Download dumb games like pong or space tetris. Maybe like a map app, and a PDA tracking app which shows you where other people's PDA's are.

I like the app store idea. Might make people learn about copying PDA programs more too, which is always good (many a round as a lone roboticist I've wanted to get hold of the securiton patrol program).
Something mentioned earlier that I think would be cool is counterfeiting. Adds another element to the Space Law side of things. Maybe it could have levels so if you use the wrong amounts of chemicals/ materials you make shitty monopoly notes that only assistants will accept, whereas the perfect amount (not written anywhere, of course, just guesswork) would make notes so real only the detective could find out - they'd even fool the ATM's/ vending machines, etc.

I really, really like genetics idea. Would also help make your own life feel more valuable.
It could work like the QM loans proposed in the OP, in that you'd either pay right away or sign a contract saying you'll pay later or suffer the consequences (read: get beaten up again). Alternatively, the geneticist could just get a computer where he swipes someones ID card and takes money from it, and just doesn't clone the guy if he can't pay and nobody else pays for him. Also the geneticists should get a computer that lets them set the cost of cloning which should be shown on a screen in medbay or something to inform people how much money they need to save up (read: steal). This, in combination with the transfer-money-with-PDAs idea (which I also support btw) would also let traitors steal someone's money to prevent them from being cloned. Or they could just steal the ID. I don't know.

All the main ideas in here are pretty cool, especially stackable, burnable cash and the casino.
I also really like having to pay for being cloned. I like the idea of different "packages," with better packages cloning you faster and making sure you end up less horribly mutated at the end. Emagging the payment console should make it auto-default to the worst possible setting regardless of what people payed for. Also the inevitable super-cheap Discount Dan's package should definitely make you spout random Dan's advertising slogans as you shamble down the halls on your new flippers.

I was thinking about the whole adding things to the QM's list idea. We already have the new bees that require semi-competent Botanists to shine, maybe we can expand on the whole "QM+other department=awesome" concept. Like:
Chef: A crate of exotic ingredients. Thinking fugu, yeti meat and stuff like that. Electrician: Prefab VR pod with a different VR than the one already on station. Requires a soldering iron and maybe some parts from the ElecTek vendor to set up. Okay alternative VR would be hell to code but think big. Maybe some cool arcade machines? (The app store is a great idea, by the way.) Roboticist: Experimental borg parts. Experimental modules. Watch JukeBorg roll around the station on tank threads blasting rock music everywhere.

Regarding the Swipe 'n Go cart that someone mentioned, what if there is a traitor counterpart(or maybe a way to hack the cart, like an emag or multitool or whatever) that instead of acting like a credit transfer device instead lifts the Pin numbers off of the IDs of people who walk past you, which you can then put into the ATM to drain their bank accounts?
Speaking of this, can we just require a PIN for the ATM? There have been many a time as HoP when I realize I left my old ID in the ID Changers and as such can't get money out of my bank. Or at least give people the chance to set the pin on their IDs, in the same way you forge an agent card, perhaps.
03-04-2013, 08:20 PM
I'm gonna go ahead and add a lot more cardswipes around the station, because why not?
03-05-2013, 08:21 AM
Since we have thoae personal computers all over, why shouldnt there be some sort of program on each of them to set a pin for your card? That way, people who get new IDs can set a pin and it actually makes sense.
03-05-2013, 08:56 AM
This would also make people much more protective of their IDs, because if someone swiped it, they could change the pin then drain their bank account.
I'm not entirely sure how the banking code works, but would it be possible to simply tie an ID with a person's name on it to their account info? Like if Robert HoPpington made an ID with John McPubbie's name on it, he should be able to use it to drain his bank account without using the bank computer. It's more work but eh.

maybe with a pseudo-functional economy it would be worth putting something really useful in? i.e. a specialized
(automatic?) manufacturing wing of QM that can make pretty much anything for anyone (like a pod for genetics or a replacement smes) that would be put into a special kit that could be deployed onto a tile? obviously you'd want time delays and/or job-specific access restrictions but it would be neat if stuff broke down and needed to be replaced it'd put more money into qm and make it important to people since qm would need to order the materials for manufacturing and then would get money when people ordered something i guess this would be useful since right now people almost always only order from qm to get useless novelty gimmicks or equipment to break into the neighboring department to steal a watering can |
