Chokeouts & Grabs
#1
Currently, grab intent + bash your Use Item hotkey = instant victor
unless you're wearing a hat??

This is stupid, so let's change it.

1. Click someone to grab AND click them again to escalate the grab. No more bash-use-key shite.
2. Delays between escalation, not too harsh.
3. Grab disrupted by anyone pushing you, walking into you, or by the person resisting (with resist based on their % of stamina left)
4. New grab phase: pin! Forces the grab-ee to the ground, gives cops time to cuff a stunned dude/stunned dude enough time to chance a Resist escape/a ref enough time to count-out a wrasslin lucha.

so a typical grab-off should look like this:

Quote:Isaac Kirkhope is trying to grab Jebediah Kerman!
Isaac Kirkhope gets a hold on Jebediah Kerman!

You try to escalate the grab to Disarm! (You must wait about 3 seconds.)
Isaac Kirkhope is trying to get a firm grip on Jebediah Kerman!
You were interrupted!

You try to escalate the grab to Disarm! (You must wait about 3 seconds.)
Isaac Kirkhope is trying to get a firm grip on Jebediah Kerman!
Isaac Kirkhope firmly grabs Jebediah Kerman!
You try to escalate the grab to Pin! (You must wait about 6 seconds.)
Isaac Kirkhope is trying to pin down Jebediah Kerman!
Isaac Kirkhope pins down Jebediah Kerman!
You try to escalate the grab to Harm! (You must wait 10 seconds.)
Isaac Kirkhope is trying to strangle Jebediah Kerman!
Isaac Kirkhope gets his hands around Jebediah Kerman's neck!
Isaac Kirkhope strangles Jebediah Kerman!
Isaac Kirkhope strangles Jebediah Kerman!

Isaac Kirkhope strangles Jebediah Kerman!
Jebediah Kerman gasps.
Jebediah Kerman shivers.
Isaac Kirkhope strangles Jebediah Kerman!
Jebediah Kerman gasps.
Jebediah Kerman seizes up and falls limp, his eyes dead and lifeless...

while resisting based straight on your stamina % should look like this:

Quote:Isaac Kirkhope pins down Jebediah Kerman!
Isaac Kirkhope is trying to strangle Jebediah Kerman!
Isaac Kirkhope gets his hands around Jebediah Kerman's neck!
Isaac Kirkhope strangles Jebediah Kerman!
You feel really, really bad!
Jebediah Kerman shivers.
Jebediah Kerman resists, but can't break free!
Jebediah Kerman resists, but can't break free!
Isaac Kirkhope strangles Jebediah Kerman!
Jebediah Kerman resists, but can't break free!
Jebediah Kerman coughs.
You break Isaac Kirkhope's grab.
Jebediah Kerman breaks free from the grab!

This way, it'd remove the instachoke/instasuplex stuff, while letting people still table assistants into customs. Shouldn't break sleepers/pods etc either

What exactly does the disarm phase do?

Also, isn't pinning sort of a thing already with the non-lethal strangle hold?

Make monkey's automatically resist chokes,

Monkey's become unstoppable plague across the station, Greytide population reduced 70%, Captain dies to a monkey every round.

Disarm doesn't seem to do anything at all, it's a hold that doesn't choke... But because it doesn't choke (and thus doesn't stun) the person being grabbed is free to just walk out of the disarm grab.

That seems like it might be a bug.

It would be nice if disarm was like, pinning their arms back behind them.

Basically, a way to cuff someone without cuffs, provided you were willing to hold them.

You shouldn't be able to move while doing this, and they should be able to resist out of it after a certain time, great for temporarily preventing someone from escaping when you don't have cuffs, but not for long term capture.

To be honest, Disarm never reeeeally did anything, but what it SHOULD do is make you drop the items you're holding.

Just to clarify, this doesn't affect the first two grab levels, right?

As in, can you still suplex people in the heat of the wrestling moment?

This seems like it'd be a hell of a lot better.

Agreed. The whole hat system seemed like a temporary fix that turned permanent. I hate how you can sum up this whole thing with this statement "Wear a hat or get cheesed"

I like it a lot better. Also solves choke-a-ling, which is terrible. This coming from a guy who never antags and employs choke-a-ling every chance he gets.

Nah, keep the movement speed slow like where it's at, but yes to being able to resist out of it at a fraction of the time it takes to get out of cuffs or even zipties. And of course if you get them in this grab they drop what they had in their hands.

What, pray tell, is choke-a-ling?

I assume it's to do with what happens when you choke a changeling. Basically, they don't take O2 damage because they don't breathe but they're still stunned and unable to do anything. You gives the person choking them out the ability to drag them across the station and gib them.

I've never seen it done, but I can see how it would be an issue. I could also be completely wrong though!
