Concepts for new artifacts
#16
Not entirely sure it's related, but while we're on the subject of artifacts, a possibly unpopular suggestion: remove the gravity artifacts that move stuff around at random.

The ones that pull or push things toward them aren't quite as bad, but the randomized gravity ones are a colossal pain to deal with and are incredibly laggy. Best case scenario they're promptly spaced, but most of the time some joker runs through the station with them, creating an incredibly laggy mess until it's dealt with.

Heart artifact ideas

- Huge increase in the amount of blood your body holds (500 units to something insane like 10,000)
- Self generation of certain chems. Randomisation, while amusing, is probably a bad idea so a list of stuff that is inherently beneficial (omnizine, chicken soup), stupid (colourful reagent, simethicone) or harmful but won't kill you straight away (liplolicide, spiders) is better for this.
- Depending on the artifact, could cause confusion in mobs. Robotic artifacts prevent rogue robots from registering you as a target, martians won't attack if you have a martian artifact heart (maybe you could even speak to them!). Wizard artifact heart causes spells that hit you to fizzle, as if you were the chaplain.
- There needs to be some synergy with initrobeedril. Maybe an initrobeedril bee has some minor change if it used to be an artifact heart, eg. a wizard heart artifact gives the bee a tiny wizard hat when it emerges. Royal initrobeedril artifact bees have major characteristic changes, eg. a giant borg artifact bee heart sends signals only borgs can hear that order them to worship it.

I like all of these ideas. Really I just adore the russian roulette aspect of accidentally killing the MD because he wanted superpowers and accidentally giving an assistant superpowers because you didn't want to kill somebody valuable. Also, harvesting the organs of the dead to gain their secret powers, or your surgeon running off with the artifact heart you got so he can sell it or have a back-alley doctor give it to HIM instead. I think the organ trade is quite a potentially fun one.

Initro bees from artifact hearts should be whatever color your blood was and have weird names.

Heart's don't give you seizures.

They do when they come from alien artifacts!

Life bond: creates a homunculus that has a connection to your health. The homunculus is inactive and just stands there.
- Most of the time, you and the homunculus share damage. If someone punches you in the face, the homunculus also acts as if it were punched in the face. If the homunculus is poisoned, you are also poisoned. You suffocate, the homunculus suffocates. If someone chops the homunculus' arms off, guess what, your arms fall off.
- Rarely, if you're very lucky, the homunculus takes damage for you instead, up until it dies at whoch point you resume taking damage. In this case the homunculus has very low overall health so as to not make this too broken.
- Probably a wizard artifact thing

You know, if there are wizard artifacts, maybe some of them ought to replicate wizard spells?

Magic missle, ice burst, rathens secret and cluwne would all make excellent touch activated artifacts.

Replicating wizard spells could be cool, but I'd rather they be weakened versions.
Even a wizards magic missiles damage starts to hurt like hell when you've been hit for the third time.

Wizard Artifact magic missile would be a stun with no damage (or reverse that, no stun with minor brute damage)

Rathen's could force people to fart like brown note (possibly even force super farts)

Cluwne would... Uhh... Replace peoples shoes with the awful cluwne shoes?

Note: Artifacts can already have a "freezing" and "Burning" field effect where the selected area is either frozen or set on fire.

Speaking of horrible shoe artifacts: an artifact that eats your shoes!

Off the top of my head:

Shoe eating artifact: one using teleportation to nom in an NxN area, and one handheld magic baton which eats the shoes of people hit with it.

Endless fancy paint can: Fancy random-ish or theme-ish patterns and colors! Pretty!

Alien Reefer: It's really far out, maaan. I mean, REALLY far out! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Honk!

The Wizmobile: Like a prison artifact, except you can run a jerk over! HEH. Variable speed. Insurance doesn't cover the possible alien atmosphere inside said vehicle!

Silicon Swag: Outfits exclusive to thems aliums! More outfits are always welcome. Crates could even have some, but big things like armor, spacesuits and hats would be more likely found in artifacts! Spriters required. RIP.

UFO Buddies: Buddies of alien make that somehow work on our computer systems!(??) Independence Day was RIGHT!!

Ecto-Stabilizer: Makes ghosts in a certain area visible! (or gives limited duration stability to those you shoot if handheld) And punchable!! Suck it, Casper!

ET Cloner: Eats you, Clones you, and Spits Out your former shell! ET doesn't have time for this natural progression bullshit!

Ravewave: The OTHER high of the future! It sends out a wave that gets you stupid high in a non addictive fashion! WoW!

Yes!! I'm acting like a car salesman On Purpose! EVERYTHING MUST GO, YE FUCKS!  :cb:

(I've been up for over 36 now. Ugh.)

A class of artifact clothes would be pretty cool.

Speed Artifacts.

Touch some to get shot forward like you have rocket boots. Other ones have an area of effect where everyone is slowed down/speed up when passing through.

Maybe even projectiles could be slowed down when passing through slow ones?

artifact condiments that make all food they are applied to taste great, and they never run out

artifact bullets that plant alien lifeform embryos/seeds/eggs/etc in ppl u shoot them with, but maybe some of the life forms are symbiotic and good smile

artifact gas canister full of mysterious artifact gases. this will require ideas for artifact gases to put in them, though

all of this is some good shit; plus, if there's a large enough pool of artifact effects, it keeps it unpredictable and interesting and encourages artlab to research & document & experiment

So I was looking at this thread when I realized that I had a lot of free time, so I decided to sprite some artifacts to hopefully help move these suggestions into actuality.

Hearts!

I like how these turned out.

Now, why go through the trouble of making these artifact hearts instead of letting the already in place small artifacts act as hearts?

Because then no one would ever get artifact heart transplants. The common procedure for finding a handheld artifact is: Picking it up, clicking on it to see if you can tighten your grip on it (Indicating that it's a beaker.), clicking a tile far away with it in the active hand, clicking a tile right next to your with it it in an active hand, hitting yourself (Or a passerby) with it, and then giving up hope of it being fun and tossing it aside. Ideally, you'd then send it to the artlab, but realistically, no one does that, ever.

That doesn't mean that the small artifacts can't be used as organ transplants, it rather means that when you find one of these, they're guaranteed to have an effect upon heart transplant. As to if that effect is good or bad, who knows. These being present means that there's the chance for people to just "wing it" and transplant hearts into people, not caring for if they're dangerous are not, instead of learning that their inactive artgun isn't a heart as their victim patient is bleeding out on the operating table.
