My JSFiddle thing was more about the contents then anything.
I was basically aiming for "Still retro gameboy screen, but with actual buttons instead of looking like they just found a free copy of lynx and decided to force an HTML file with no styling."
I also tried to make the buttons look fairly uniform, including changing the text so they all have similar spacing although it wasn't perfect.
If someone wants to give a shot at something better they're welcome to it.

Would something like this fit in well with the game?

I refashioned my old admittedly shitty effort into a new alot less shitty effort using the same color code as the new hud, using navy blue/neon green scheme
Feedback appreciated, like the last effort there's always room for a different take.

Really like that design.
However, the blurring on the top is really throwing me off.

Looks great! Only need to change the link hover to the brighter color too.

I deffo like rocket his PDA stuff, it can easily be adapted for other UI elements, and styled to make a better impression.
And you can slightly change the BG hue/colour to make other popups stand out more.
Even the oh-so-ugly hotkeys file can easily look a lot better if you add a cool UI to it:

Which blur? I haven't smudged or blurred anything, everything is using sharp colors and luminosity.
Could you be talking about the nanotrasen N? That was compressed slightly so it was of a nicer shape.

PDA was a bit updated with darker screen edges and resizing:

Based on that, here's a terminal WIP for everyone to mess around:

ideas on revamping existing popups' interface would be nice too
for example, how would you update the chemistry popup

For Chemistry, I have drawn this shitty mockup design. Warning: shitty.
Included: an alternate 'LED' type thing for if a container is full, the absence of a cardslot because *scream, an abbreviated form of the chemical options, chemcial symbols, and whatnot. There are 29 chems in the dispenser, I set Water off in the corner because of it not fitting in the alphabetical pattern and being a 'universal' thing and also it wouldn't fit as part of a 4x7 grid. These would look way more buttony and pleasant in the real thing, I simply created this as a proof of concept for spacing.

Can there be an option to disable "new-style" popups and leave the ones that use the system controls intact? Because the fancy new ones break horribly in WINE, especially when moving them -- they jump all over and tend to follow the mouse even after not dragging them, which makes it kind of frustrating to close them.
They look impressive, they're just... not usable.
