chips and a drink cost $7 so availability isn't an issue. it takes 40'minutes for you to notice an appreciable effect and that's 60-80'minutes if you eat at round start. shove a cake into your pie-hole v at round start and occasionally sip a soda (or just don't bleed) and you'll notice no changes. I don't really want this idea getting shot down because people are too lazy to go to a vending machine once a round rather than it's merit or lack thereof
Heck, just stick a candy bar or an apple and a bottle of water in everyone's box at round start if it's a problem.

Here's an older thread on this subject. I particularly like the idea of randomized favorite foods.

If there is no negative effect in not eating, or that negative effect is so miniscule it stands at the edge of obscurity, well.. it's rather hard to balance any of this out.

One thing I suggested last thread was that perhaps randomized favorite foods makes you better at your job, rather than just healing. Like QM your haggling skills and treshold rises. Or with genetics any item during your buff is slightly more dna stable. Or with robotics you're less likely to mess up a cut. MD's topical skills increase. Security run faster. The captain is harder to strip. Etc.
It was shot down but I dunno I still think it stands as a solid suggestion that could be worth discussing? Because food just plain old healing is rather dull and nobody uses it for that effect as medical aid is always nearby.

I think if we could combine that, and add a nutrient system in along something that was suggested, then we could be onto something.

there should be Picky Eaters

people refusing to eat a certain kind of food whether it be refusal to eat vendor food or something

What would hunger needs add to the game that would make it fun? Nothing. Changing the stamina system, which I never notice at all, would be it, and the effect would be small.

Having to gobble food to avoid bad things in a spaceman game that lasts an hour isn't fun.

I think hunger shouldn't screw with players too much.

Rather you should be able to get tiny boost of stamina and/or stamina regen from easy food, and larger boosts from cooked food in addition to other effects. Eating too much will make you fat, but eating a medium amount should help you fight longer. Or if you're insane you can gorge yourself with lipocide and keep chowing food down for huge gains in stamina with a need to constantly consume antitoxin to counteract the poison effects. food already gives a slight health benefit assuming you aren't damaged too much, so why not play with giving chef a combat support role by letting him protein shake security. drug Tolerance should probably play a role in ensuring that security doesn't become tankcurity for too long. Carrots should heal eyesight, certain foods should decrease or stop bleeding entirely after some consumption because natural drugs. Perhaps if broken bones become a thing milk could decrease the likely hood of broken bones.

Basically give chef the opportunity to create crewmen battle diets and recipes.

Pretty much this. Change it up all you want the moment you force something on all the players it loses all hope of being fun in my eyes. That and we already had a hunger system during the April Fools shit a month ago and it was horrible, even if it was by itself it would still been terrible. Stop trying to add realism to a 2d Spessmen game about farts and clowns.

I dislike the times. I realize that sims mode's 5 minutes-or-die was harsh but 60 and 120 minutes to reach full-fledged penalty is eh

Now I think this Idea could work if people are not forced to eat and if they choose not to then Nothing bad happens to them, But say you have a favorite food at the start of the round (like people have suggested) and eat said favorite food and that gives you some good bonuses (Or any food for that matter). This would give players a reason to seek out the chef to get said food. You make the bonuses worth wild enough while not forcing things on to others who could care less then I think you guys are on to something thus giving food purpose without forcing a stupid hunger system on everyone. You want to make food fun? Great, but a hunger system is not the way to go about it.

That's more or less how I think it should be.

I do like the idea of rumbling stomaches giving away cloakers and people hiding in lockers, though.

Nothing about this system as-suggested forces you to buy into it. You can feel free to eat your sacked lunch at round start and completely ignore the fact that the system exists for the whole rest of the round.

The system rewards people who wish to pay attention to their eating and visit the chef. It does not extensively penalize you for deciding you don't want to do it.

RE: LOL ROLEPLAY
Rejecting an idea simply because it has roleplay elements and "lol we're not an rp server" is stupid. Judge ideas on their merits, not on shitty memes and perceived server identity.

If you don't like that this suggestion is semi-realistic then make an alternate suggestion that's more to your taste, and go scream that we should remove hats because they go on your head or something.

I foresaw incessant whining about being forced to roleplay and so designed a syetem that did not force people to actually do anything outside what they might normally do.
