Jean-Luc, I get your reasons for not liking the detective's office being moved, but honestly, I much prefer where it is now. I'm not an avid player of the role, however, so if more people who play detective often come forward saying they hate the change, I'll consider moving it back, but for now I think it's good where it is.
Y'all still have Security access, so if being in sec feels safer to you, you can always go hang out in sec. There's also probably a lot less reason for people to break into the detective's office now, as the thermals and gun have been moved into the forensics locker - you'll need access to the room's doors to get to them, anyway.

I've been playing detective quite a bit recently, during the transition period of the office.
Normally, I'd say the move is bad, but because the detective's gear was moved to a secure locker I gotta say there's no real issue. I mean, what else is there to steal from the detective besides his .38 and thermals? His fedora?

The idea of the detective moving place has alot of reasons. One is to emphasize the detective being a separate entity to security. In ways, he is. And in ways, security doesn't need him, as many security can do detective work themselves.
He is the only security that can become a traitor. It's also to keep the detective as a more civilian-esque roll. A person for hire. Someone to protect you? The detective can do it. Missing a friend? The detective. You could integrate the PDA messaging system that now messages departments and add the detective a separate hotline. Or give him a little cassette thing on his table that records peoples requests via PDA:
"BEEP! YOU HAVE 1 NEW MESSAGE!"
I actually suggested a brig visiting area some-time back, although it was alot more convoluted the way I suggested it and I am glad it is put in, although I think the brig is now by the looks of it, a bit bloated. A few pointers:
1. Is there really need for the shutter doors between the brig and visiting area? I can imagine they're open every round. People aren't in the brig that long to warrant it.
2. Make the brig smaller, and use the space as access to a "parole" room. You can store the prisoners stuff there and prisoners could access it when they are released
3. Make the brig funner to be in, and break out. Give them one sole beaker, perhaps a monkey too. Wire up the windows to make an distinct alarm when people cross it. Give the brig a CCTV so prisoners can view when security is free and break out.

The Detective can live in the maintenance tunnels for all anyone cares!
If I could use Geoff Honkington as a convenient means to empty my starting clip, I'd take over his office in a heartbeat.

I am a big fan of the detective's office and the visitation thing and all but the genpop is ungodly huge now

People complained about the detective in general, and moving the detective's office was brought up as an option to remind him that he isn't actually sec and also fits much better thematically. Disposals maintenance is honestly a much better place for the detective anyway; lots of crime evidence ends up there and it's not like it really matters if people break into his office.

I made a comment in the upcoming cogmap thread that the detective's office shouldn't really be that close to the bridge crew, and people agreed with me.

Yeah I like the new placement to remind people Detective is not and has never been security. Sure he can help out but there is no reason to go after law breakers. Just hide around and stare at people through the walls and fire your gun wildly and drunkenly.

I don't know about other countries, but in America, "detective" is usually a title given to a senior officer, and that might be a source of confusion. Perhaps he should be renamed "private investigator"?
