Distributing/Selling Explosives?
#16
I think that while selling explosives shouldn't be encouraged by any means, selling them shouldn't be a bannable offense. I think that security should step in and try to resolve the issue FBI style. Most of the time I encourage shady black market deals, but bombs are just a little too strong as it stands right now to sell them assistant #2 and all of his friends.(Unless they got changed!) Plus bombs can only be used for bad.

Things you can do with bombs:
-Suicide Bomb (bad)
-Bomb (bad unless you are a traitor in which case make your own damn bombs you lazy shit)
-Threaten (Actually pretty good, especially if you take some hostages!)

If you really want to sell something that isn't exactly correct in the eyes of security, then sell some drugs, or maybe food with this new stamina update. You can sell many things. You can even sell your service. Whenever I get detective and the barman's gone and security doesn't need me, I sell myself out as a private eye. You can sell tons of things besides bombs!

A quick test, to see if you are on goonstation.

Has someone seen a post by an admin, telling you that a certain thing is alright in certain circumstances, and then told you in no uncertain terms "Nope, ignore that, you can never do this period."

Congratulations! You are on goonstation.

Seriously, though. How many arguments have there been in GD which continue for pages after an admin explains exactly what's allowed and what isn't? 3? 7? Just read the goddamned post from GMD and shut up, you terrible terrible spergs.

There's a difference between saying "No you can't do this because you'll be banned" and "no you shouldn't do this because it's fucking stupid".

Stupidity is a staple of SS13.

I don't think that's a good justification for indirectly bombing the station tbh

Are we going to start getting angry about indirectly doing stuff now?

So if I see someone dragging another person into the tunnels and I don't stop them does that mean I indirectly helped the person dragging and I'm just as bad as them?

I don't see why you guys are so salty about all this? GMD himself said it's not a bad thing to sell bombs but if people do it every round they would crack down on it. Obviously it hasn't been happening every round because they have not cracked down on it. So I guess talking on this topic is just a waste of time. Already got your answer, just go back to playing the game and stop being sticks in the mud.

I think there's a bit of a difference between not doing anything and supplying traitors with bombs

It's the difference between watching them take the body away and knocking the person out yourself and handing them over.

Sell zipguns instead.

A. Zipguns are fun to carry around, easy to make*, and accept any kind of ammo.
*(Although hacking a general manufacturer for ammo requires some skill, and you need to get charcoal somehow, probably stealing or asking engineering for some)

I made a zip gun during a nuke round, filled it with .22 ammo, and got in a gun fight with a syndicate, surprisingly my gun didn't blow my arm off, and while the syndie killed me, shooting that guy while in crit was fun. He still outlived me because he was full of armor and I was not, and I had more actual bullets inside me.

B. There's risk to the holder, because it could blow their arm off.

Accidental zipgun explosions are always funny and unexpected.

C. anyone stupid enough to start firing a zip gun for any reason without it being valid is going to get banned or killed.

Also sell radio-Beaker-igniter contraptions filled with smoke powder and carpet. Nobody can fault you for carpet bombing the station then except in the case that it's so much smoke the server lags.

Actually find any kind of novelty chemical and fill beaker/igniter bombs with it. I imagine that chemical that stops you from farting might be a good one.

Pretty much turn all the beaker bombs into novelty explosives that aren't harmful but funny to distribute. People might yell at you because they don't know what kind of smoke you released from that smoke bomb you bought, but they might be impressed at their dire need to go fast. (note that some chemical bombs are still a bad idea, so ignore me if that's the case)

Yes I agree there are many of more fun and nonlethal things you can make and sell but the point of this thread is;

Quote:What are the rules on distributing/selling vast quantities of pipebombs/transfer valve/explosive tomatoes throughout the station as a non-antag?

And as GMD said before people won't get banned for it unless it's happening every round. Although that doesn't really stop sec or vigilantes from shutting down your shop but that's something else entirely.

He also said it's not allowed unless it's off the station or you're a traitor. The addendum was that they can't STOP you from doing it, not that it's a good thing to do.

What the fuck? Since when is it a bad thing to sell explosives? Since when is it a bad thing to capitalize on people doing ~evil~ things in this game? You are not blowing up the station, you are not telling people to set off the bombs, you are not directly doing anything to harm anyone. You aren't even marketing the explosives to only traitors, you're selling them to anyone who comes up to you and buys one. You're not even directly helping a traitor, you're making them pay for a service, and I thought bribing was an acceptable thing to do? Why is it ok to bribe a security guard to ignore your traitoring but it's not ok to sell a bomb to a traitor? Both are potentially harmful and against the play2win mentality, but one is totally acceptable but the other isn't? Now that being said you shouldn't get legitimately mad if you're shut down by security, but bomb selling is not be something admins should have any business regulating unless you are setting them off yourself and you're not a traitor.

Basically, saying that selling bombs is a bannable offence is saying that if you make bombs for VR testing and a guy comes in, steals one, and runs out, you should be banned for allowing that guy to get a bomb. roll eyes (sarcastic)
