A few kudzu people ideas, and a modest kudzu proposal
#1
Idea the first: kudzu people proposed changed

Kudzu people seem to be a sort of underused and disliked function. I was going to suggest two different ideas paths to get a bit of growth for our plant people.

  • Kudzu people could deplete c02 to gain nutrients quickly, producing oxygen
  • Are dead antags who become kudzu people steal antags? I feel they SHOULD be because nothing else changes antag status. Its on the soul. They even show up as antags at the enr credits still. Maybe this should be clarified? Maybe kudzu people could follow mindhack rules to their original planter if they are a kudzu person(hive mind center)
  • Kudzu people should be able to grow a nutrient sack theu could wear as a backpack. Allowing them to leave them to survive for a few minutes from their kudzu
  • Kudzu people could sacraficr themselves to start a new kudzu shoot away from their original  site

I feel all of these could be transformative and allow for a more dynamic and engaging USE of the kudzu people. I feel like they could be more of a force in the round if they could affect and alter or change the growth. Maybe eveb just a massive nutrient loss to replant? Possibly a much shorter spread space?

Idea the second: lets trim the shoot of kudzu people to make a new scarrier change

Instead of kudzu people: what if a corpse, with a 1-2 minute timer, created a sentient and obedient to thr kudzu planter man eater with the corpses mind(dnd would produce npc man eaters)

This would change the kudzu to a far more dangerous threat rather then just a distracting impediment and creator of click on the floor simulator 2053.

Really like the hivemind idea, makes it so you could tell your kudzu people to actively spread normal kudzu, unlike what currently happens that, you convert one crewmember into kudzu, and they proceed to only spread the rose kudzu that doesn't spread and so completely counter your own kudzu. The man eater idea is also cool, but I feel like that could be too strong? Man eaters are really powerful, and player controlled ones sounds scary. I do think antags who gets turned into kudzu should retain antag status, that way you can actively spread your own kudzu, also a neat idea. What if kudzu was turned into a high tc item (7 or 8 TC like faustian), could only be bought by botanists, and was more fully fleeshed out? Like, the kudzu seed is a transformation to the botanist that makes them a stronger kudzu person, as a leader, similar to your hivemind idea, that converts other players into kudzu people and spreads the kudzu around, and the more kudzu it spreads the stronger it becomes.

These would be the "standard" man eaters. Not the bespoke man eaters that a botanist spends a long time but a general slow moving tried to eat you one. Could still be to strong? Idk. I think a player controlled one would be MORE dangerous but mot sure HOW much more.

i don't like the idea of kudzu making maneaters instead of kudzupeople from what i understand, but giving the kudzu a hivemind chat and a goal to spread would be neat. perhaps to play further on the "everyone is part of the same plant" feel, kudzupeople could sense when another kudzuperson is dying on kudzu and see where they are?

Giving them a death sense would help! It'd let them coordinate at least and sorta fits with their themeing.

The status of kudzupeople is in a state of ambiguity right now and if admins could give more clarity it would be nice, not only for the loosing antagonist status part.
1. The pop-up you get when becoming a kudzu person says your new objective is to grow and spread kudzu, does that make you more like a silicon ruleswise?
2. Is there a limit to your spreading and defense of kudzu where it becomes beyond your bounds as "non-antag"?
3. I've seen people attack kudzu people on sight in some cases, are they valid? The current pop-up doesn't say anything about it as far as i know.
4. Is refusing to be a kudzu person ahelpable like it would be refusing to be a mindhack?

I know reports through medass to ask questions are a thing, but since i've seen kudzu cause confusion a few times maybe a more public answer will help

From what I understand Kudzupeople are non-humans. Players can freely kill them (mostly to bring them back to life/borg) Kudzupeople are only allowed to attack in self defense. non-antags assaulting or killing people for killing kudzupeople are self-antagging and that is against the rules. Ahelp those people.

This is entirely for the sake of the discussion in the thread. I am not making a judgement on the situation as mentor or something. I'm just showing the actual popup as it currently exists for reference. As always: If you're not sure about an antag situation in a round definitely AHELP or use discord to ]report it.

One thing to note, the wiki currently directs to an empty page.

As for the ideas stated, yeah that sounds fun, I think ultimately a seed only available to a couple of classes for one antag type and the occasional adminfunny means that kudzupeople definitely are fun but anyone who wants to work on them is going to be doing it as a passion project.

EDIT: got side tracked bug reporting, as I said hopefully someone picks them up as a passion project. I do feel like they could be really fun antag or non antag. As for their status: I feel like It's probably Rules As Written but if anyone gets a report back or an admin says on here that's not what it means: the popup should have the language changed to reflect they mean "Kudzupeople are not antagonists by default"
