Time Travel Machine Adventure Zone
#1
I was thinking about how some ideas seem to crossover in Space Station 13 and wondered if a time travel machine would be a good idea? We are in this futuristic megacorporation in space so why not have this technology!

It would be in the telescience room and it would have a dial. NT constructed this with many goals in mind such as recovering really cool artifacts from the past to sell or collecting older species to bring back and study. With great power also comes great shenanigans... what if someone accidentally brings back a prehistoric beast or a raving mad knight back through with them? On the positive side, wouldn't you like to see how clowns evolved?

Edit: The dial sets the era and maybe it's connected to something that controls the z level stuff.

Could maybe make a smaller map, and dupe it a few times with each instance being a different point in time at the same location you could travel to

small chance to come back with old sprites

Also, maybe being able to have missions like getting the corpse of a special individual or fossils to sell in cargo.

Would you also be able to go to the.. future future? Bring back something that hasn't even been invented yet?

"Would you also be able to go to the.. future future? Bring back something that hasn't even been invented yet?"

That should definitely be a consideration and it adds considerably to lore. Does NT look good in the future? Did the syndicate's or some other force win? Or is it all simply a apocalyptic future.

Ooh, or your actions in the past would have a butterfly effect on what you find in the future!

Okay, I'm not very good at design plans but here's how it's fleshed out.

The Time Travel Machine could be seperate or could just be added to the telescience computer. Either way it would have an option for setting coordinates and then an option to set the era underneath it. When you are ready to go you'd toggle the teleportation and you are launched to your destination. There should probably be a few maps/time periods to start with and variations based off the adventure zones and main station that already exists. Maybe to keep it unique specific actions could trigger funny things on the present station, an example being you killed the wrong monkey so now the crew all gets monkified.

Other Benefits of Addition: Other then having the bragging rights of having a time machine this could be an ongoing project with many sides to it. Special artifacts or missions for cargo to retrieve valuable materials. Maybe ancient plants for the botanists or long gone minerals for the mining crew. Chems that are not in existence in the present could be taken from the past or better ones from the future. Also sprite makers and lore writers could have an absolute blast with this stuff.

The different era's could include a prehistoric one, one with some sort of developing sentience, some past civilization at a medieval stage. Perhaps when setting the z level to the station and its future we'd teleport to find that the Syndicate took it over or that it's a vampire colony. Maybe a place like the void was once thriving and teaming with life. Maybe an ancient medieval alien civilization?

All my ideas are pretty okay I guess but I dunno, it would be really cool to basically have Stargate stuff happen with more grandiosity.

I think it should be a console located at the Future ship that could choose between a few versions of a new azone.

Maybe you would need to perform certain things in it to progress in another era.

if you go to the past there should be a past version of you that if killed will immediately cause you to not exist

Let's add two unique deaths.

1: Paradoxial death. (Touched the wrong item and now your corpse has turned into -Insert random critter here-)

2: Time displaced death. (Why did you touch the quantum unstable item? Now you instantly aged 500 years... ooh you can't and are rotten now?)

Maybe make it so that you would have to repair the ship just a bit for it to function

Perhaps you need to somehow save the guy in the sleeper.

It would be funny if returning to the present caused the players character to get massive amounts of facial hair.

That's some sci-fi stuff right there! The idea of exploring different time periods sounds both exciting and, let's admit it, a tad risky. Reminds me of the time I visited one of the biggest theme parks in USA. The roller coasters were thrilling, but I couldn't help but wonder what it would be like to travel back in time and experience the amusement parks of the past. Who knows, maybe with that time machine, we could actually make it happen!
