making the engineers start the engine
#46
Give Engineering one of those teleporter pads, so scientists can just teleport a gas canister in somewhere the engineers will see it.

Also potentially fun use. Make a bomb, teleport it in, and activate it remotely.

Yes, but then there's less chance of someone stealing the tank and using it for Fun things.

Leaving the tank in the engineering lobby is kinda ill-advised. It's "safer" to slap an Engine Dock tag on it and shove it into the cargo router entry outside the science wing. It'll get sent into the engineering dock above the engine.

Which no one ever checks, even if you scream at them repeatedly to get the canister you sent five minutes into the round for them. oh sigh

put a little tripwire on the mail docks that beep the pdas of the relevant crew-members

If they never bother checking the dock, that's their problem.

Can't that be fixed by tripping a message when you get a package, like the morgue?

add bomb collars that detonate if you leave engineering before the engine is set up

i think I posted another thread on this but im a shameless ego jerk so im gonna resuggest it, somehow turning station budget into power. it's one thing to say "crew should feel free to murder engineers when they don't set up the engine" but by the time anyone realizes the engineers should be murdered and someone else needs to step up and set up the engine all the lights are out and no one can do their job so everyone just gets apathetic and doesn't care. letting the hop/captain buy 10 minutes of power for the bulk of the station budget would give time to recruit folks to set up the engine &&& let security hunt down and brutally murder the shit engineers. the geneticists and QM would be happy to help out knowing that their budget is getting trashed cause of lazy engineers.

Engineers should have 10 minutes to set up the engine before they all get autocluwned.

go kill yourself, like really we are talking about making them start the engine and not making them suicide on the start of the round

if you want people to be engineers and not just blacklist the job then you shouldn't add shitty punishments like that. honestly, more rewards and stuff for starting it would be a good idea (as well as some books in the book vendor as well as one in engineering describing how to set up the engine maybe?)

the whole "if the engines not set up in 10 minutes then let engineers be killed/cluwned" thing wouldnt work. what if someone joins late as an engineer? or what if theyre actively trying to figure out how to set it up only to be cluwned or murdered because they werent able to figure it out themselves in 10 minutes?

give them cool toys and shit that can only be used once the engines set up to a certain minimal output, and also give engineer borgs the tool they need to be able to set up the engine solo.

Gold wrenches for everyone if it's started in 5 minutes?

im pretty sure gold wrenches dont do anything special, but like people've said before with crates/lockers only opening once theres enough power and stuff like that. werent nerf guns sprited a long time ago? maybe if someone still has sprites for it give them those or something

Definitely put so thing unique related to the engine in engineering so people have an incentive to stay there and monitor the dang thing after it's started. With most other jobs there's some self interest in doing them. With engineering, there's no real reason to start the engine and the only reward is that the crew might not gib you.
