Add Manta Comms Tower to more maps
#1
Manta has that neat comms tower that you can sabotage to temporarily disable comms. It also has some other general infrastructure stuff and I think that aspect of design should be extended to more maps in general.

It'd generally just add another little thing to keep an eye on, interact with, and potentially sabotage.

Also to be honest I think that general design idea would be neat to add to all maps and expanded upon, the idea of more integral station systems. Gravity? Chemical Synthesizers? Power breakers? Point defense system that makes meteors start to hit the station if offline. I don't know, just things like that.

I want more stations to have torpedos like manta as well.

I think there's opportunities to make those map specific too.

For instance, what if space maps had gravity generators? Maybe makes people float and for thrown items to have slippery inertia.
Maybe tampering with these things just causes one of the station events?

The station's systems and engineering being so simplistic is supposedly intentional.

Manta's communication tower is dumb and nonsensical IMO. It's short-range radio, you don't need a goddamn tower.

Yeah ditto. If we're gonna have communications mechanics, we should evolve them into something...good.

The problem with all these suggestions is that the only thing they exist for is to be additional points of failure. There's nothing to can do to them that actually improves how the station functions in a significant way, nor anything you could really add to them that would do so (because the station was intentionally made to be as low-maintenance as possible). They only exist for antagonists to blow them up and screw over the entire station, so the only thing the station can do about it is have someone guard them 24/7, which isn't any fun for anyone.

But tell me - who is 24/7 guarding the comm tower on Manta?

I'm not saying it will happen - it probably won't, because absolutely no one wants to do it. I'm saying that that's the only positive thing that non-antags can accomplish with them, because they only exist for antags to blow up and screw over the entire station in the process.

I mean. Why shouldn't we have places that should be defended from bad guys? That would make it more interesting in my opinion. Not every thing needs to be beneficial towards the crew.

Well - think of it this way:
When an antag interacts with it they will leave fingerprints behind.
The effect of sabotaging one of these areas will be noticeable; thus security or the detective could investigate the matter with a fun hint.

Maybe there could just "emergancy" comms that kick in for a few minutes until it's fixed?

Well yes this is also why I mentioned that it should be expanded upon. Add ways to interact with them and improve them, add ways to sabotage them. Everything inbetween. SS13 in my opinion has always been more fun the more things go wrong, so I just like the chaos and trying to keep the place from descending into total madness for as long as possible.

Keep in mind there's a reason we don't have Tcomms.

It's already not full tcomms, when you break the tower comms comes back in ten minutes automatically.
