remove the ability of pods to enter the escape shuttle
#31
So, it seems we're just slinging insults in this thread now.

I'm not really hearing any argument for why pods should be allowed on the shuttle.

I am in the camp of having pods on the shuttle is silly and probably shouldn't be a thing considering the only times I see people do this it's someone doing the most they can to "win" the round.

Yeah, I get it's not insanely difficult to beat up a large pod; however, the mini-putts or strelka are definitely a pain in the ass. Most of the time it just takes up space needed to run away from some other traitor.

If they're allowed on the escape shuttle, they should be allowed on the station tilea as well. Then we'd have a decent defense for those drone attack rounds.

In a round not long ago a guy who "just wanted to bring his pod to centcom" brought a large pod on by shooting the windows with disruptors and "accidentally" shot people multiple times on top of exposing the shuttle to hard vacuum. Afterwards he complained in ooc about people destroying his pod, after firing back at them and hitting more random people in the process.

I know this is just a case of the guy being an idiot, and I also understand wanting to bring a pod to centcom, but people shouldnt be breaking the windows to bring large pods on in the first place, and collateral damage is pretty much guaranteed if the guy in it tries to defend himself.

I remember a thread on this topic a while ago suggested making the shuttle larger and adding a podbay to the shuttle, so people who want to show off their gold pod can do so.

I'd be all for letting pods fly on the station tiles.

But yes, what's the point of making a gold pod if you can't show it off on the shuttle

Now that's a constructive idea that I can support.

same, I agree
tinkering with the shuttle in general would be neat

but also why not just, i don't know, potentially limit the efficacy of pods/weapons when on station/shuttle tiles rather than chop the whole mechanic out

I have no issue with the pods being on the shuttle.

That said redesigning the shuttle is actually one of the projects I was going to tackle. I actually kind of forgot about it, I should really post it but its very much WIP.

It covers the following:

- Somewhat larger escape shuttle, more effective sections.
- Wings that extend out during transit.
- Escape pods land haphazardly on wings

I could definitely design it with a mini podbay in mind. Could be good for the sec section?

God, having a fight on the wings of the escape shuttle sounds like it would be a hoot

At first I was thinking "Why does a space shuttle need wings?", but that makes it all better. Not to mention we could reenact that Twilight Zone moment.

these things about on-shuttle pod bay sound really good. also the shuttle is boring yes we need more shuttles. wasn't there a thread somewhere about a bunch of different shuttle ideas?

also if you get killed by pods on the shuttle so often, start bringing your own pods. drills do well against other pods due to their fast fire rate and high damage, and being melee makes it harder to kill bystanders

edit: sundance while you're at it, add borg chargers or some kind of borg and ai seats to the shuttle

The AI is sentient yes?
So the escape shuttle should arrive with a shell inside the cockpit for the AI to deploy to when it is time.

What? The problem isn't with the number of shells, it's that no synthetics can buckle into chairs, and ALL of them get stunned when the shuttle leaves.

I guess having a shell or something so the AI doesn't have to send a shell down there is helpful too though. It'd have to only work once the shuttle arrives

Yeah that's more my point basically, instead of needing to prep / conserve a shell for escape, the AI can focus on aiding the escape effort and deploy at the last second. But yeah it should probably come with a charging dock or something to keep it from bonking it's head.

Eh. Definitely no to having a shell all ready on the shuttle.

Here are a few problems with that:

• What's to stop the AI from deploying to the shell at Centcom midround?
• What happens when the AI is rogue?
    - It can deploy to the shell on the shuttle at Centcom and bolt doors/break windows
    - If you solve the Centcom issue, it can still deploy to the shell once the shuttle arrives and before anyone has a chance to enter, bolt doors/break windows.

I don't see the Centcomm thing as bad, but if you really hate it then just make the shell accessible once it docks with the station.
Also, bolting the doors to the shuttle would already happen if the AI is rogue, and the AI is so weak that it deserves that tiny fighting chance anyway. People will just go through the windows or hack the doors anyway, I've literally never seen bolted doors stop a group of people from getting onto the shuttle.
