Some long balloons for making balloon animals and other objects like hats, swords, guns and the like.
And let the clown name the balloon item itself. So you can name it horse and use the balloon dog sprite.
Maybe give them quality modifiers too? So you'd get terrible balloon snakes and excellent balloon pirate hats.

Also let them be filled by canisters, but it has to be set to a really low output, otherwise the balloon pops and you get the gas everywhere.
If the clown is sick with something airborne and inflates the balloon himself, it should spread when the balloon pops.
Attacking someones hand while they are holding a balloon should pop it.

This might be a lot of effort just for some balloons though.

All we need is the ability to fart directly into balloons (they can release jenkem smoke when popped or whatever, all I care about is seeing combat logs reading "Murderfart Giggleshiv farts into the balloon!")

I have made a selection of balloon animal sprites. The files are available in this Dropbox folder. You can also view them in this imgur album.

Activating a held balloon should open a menu similar to the one for deciding what to make out of material sheets or rods. I think that would be the most sane way to go about this - constructing a balloon animal out of differently-shaped balloons, like igniter assemblies, would add unnecessary aggravation (MENTORHELP: "I'm trying to make a Martian balloon and I can't remember if I have to twist the long balloon shut before I connect it to the fat balloon, or if it's long balloon + long balloon, twist those, THEN add it to the fat balloon..."), not to mention more sprites.

The selected balloon animal would appear at its maker's feet, as a motionless and fragile critter. A slain balloon animal can just turn into a pile of water balloon shrapnel, they don't need special corpse sprites. Being a critter also means I don't have to draw "when equipped" sprites for them. When destroyed, they should probably leak their contents; that would allow friendly clowns to fill them with helium or water or whatever, asshole clowns to put jenkem in a bee, morally upright clowns to punish people for killing bee balloons, and antag clowns to actually do crime with them.

Bee:

Spider:

"It even has little pipe cleaners for legs!"

Fermid:

"Almost as terrifying as the genuine article."

Owl:

"It is watching you. Always."

Martian:

"Never, ever show this to a Martian. These things are like boogery little Golliwog dolls to them."

Dog:

"The station has a no-dogs policy, after an incident in maintenance. This one should be fine though."

Rock worm:

"Warranty void if fed rocks."

• These last two are replicas of actual items, and should use their counterparts' "when equipped" sprites.

Fish:

"This was a missed opportunity for a clownfish joke."
Slap people with it. Slap sec with it. Go to jail.

Pie:

"This time, the clown has gone too far."
Clowns have adapted to their lack of kitchen access, and can turn balloons into pies instead. Functionally identical to water balloons when thrown. Eating it should make you choke on plastic, but since that would allow clowns to forcefeed people a ration of death, it should probably just gas you with its contents like real food.

I think the clown PDA should have a hidden mode on it that lets you order clown gag items (Instead of traitor items) If a clown spawns as a non-traitor. They need to have the clown in the "Clown tent" area unlock it. Also, instead of hacking general fabricators to get other clown clothing either A: Have a clown fabricator and expand the "Clown tent" to have a extra room with clown only access and a clowning fabricator or B: Give the QM a uniform fabricator (Like the one that the HoP has) and make hacking that have more clown clothing items.

I was thinking it'd just be the red space suit and helmet combo. Really all the sprite needs is a string coming off of it.

Reasons for Long ballons:

1. Balloon armor: wearing this thing is a waste of balloons, getting hit by anyone will cause it to pop, as will falling over.

Wearing balloon armor all round should be an achievement of some kind, because I like to imagine there's at least one crimer who would pop it on purpose.

Also it would require a lot of balloons and be a project by itself.

as for sprites I have no idea how it would work, maybe it just disappears and leaves some balloon litter after it pops.
