My problem with geneticists is that they seem to forget that they're a part of medbay, and medbay means helping the crew. The most interaction I have with them is running away while they try to shove me into the gene scanner.

Well when you're a geneticist, you're trying to unlock the secrets of the human body through a puzzle mini game and people keep coming in and bothering you with interactions. What do they think this is? A God damn multiplayer game?

If you want to interact with genetics then just go ask them if they want to scan you for mutations.
Genetics doesn't have to be the one to take the first step in giving you powers.
The few times someone has asked to get experimented on its been an absolute pleasure to work with people.

New update solves some of the problems I had with genetics! now I can see who has X-ray from the medical database and call their ass into genetics to give everyone mutant powers! woo! now we just need easier injectors/mutation storage and we can really x-man the station to hell and back. plus this new method of research means you can trick a potential target for assassination into coming into a genetics scanner and then mutate them into gibbing for a stylish kill. fun times for everyone.

The Title says it all. not only would it put genetics closer to the science department but it would mean that potential victims... err, research subjects would have easier access to genetics for power activation and research. Currently you either have to walk past locked medbay doors to get to genetics when called or walk through maint, which not everyone has access to. putting Genetics closer to the central hallway would mean easier walk ins, and maybe geneticists wouldnt be such hermits.

the new update means its easy to hand out powers, and its actually beneficial to have a third party to help you as you can just activate the gene and then store it instead of going through a long ass puzzle. it is now a disadvantage to be a hermit as a geneticist now! you end up researching much slower if you do it alone.

It's never not gonna suck to have a ton of entitled jerkoffs pushing you out of the way making injectors and screwing up yoour research. It's location, as it stands, is good. It's got maint access, and it's hard to hit with bombs readily.

I agree with the OP. Maybe geneticists are loathed so because they're misunderstood. They're always isolated in that little corner of medbay, cursing anybody who stumbles inside. Making them more public is something worth trying and it's not like anybody ever uses the waiting room anyways. Besides, genetics is much less of a target now that they're no longer responsible for cloning.

If a non-geneticist starts fucking with my console, they get kicked to the curb. I suggest you do the same with any annoyances. And if they retaliate, you've got superpowers and goku hair on your side.

relocating genetics to the medbay waiting room would mean hauling monkeys across medbay from the monkeydome, or relocating the monkeydome too
maybe the genetics maint door zone could be converted into a nice mini waiting room spot with one of those interior glass door dealies, kind of like qm's front desk. assistants who wanna volunteer or beg for power injectors can just come visit there.

Thus ensuring that geneticists not only get interrupted but robusted for their ID card too. The private cloner was originally solved by the morgue shoot which meant that people didn't need to enter medical to deliver a corpse. Now we have this weird grey area where the public are free to use the cloned.. But not really because it's still behind a locked door.

I like this, but stick an extra research scanner outside the lab and have the console for it inside.
That way, crew can just hop inside and geneticists don't need to expose themselves.

the monkey dragging thing would be a bit of a hassle but a minor one in comparison to getting actual PLAYERS into genetics. plus it opens up some possible monkey related shenanigans. any geneticist worth their salt puts the monkey victim in a straight jacket before moving them to genetics anyway.
