The Island: A Post-Communist Simulation (forum game)
#3
A few more clarification points

There are 7 players and 7 titles. I'll give everyone a 24 hour "grace period" when the game begins to decide all of this, once that is done, I'll accept what I've been told everyone's title is. That also means that if you get to me first after that and lie about it, that the titles you assign everyone will become official, as, that's what reported in the press.

When you sign up to play you should include either a picture or a name of a person you which to be your "avatar" so that I can add pictures to news stories (in fact, it's wise to do both, as, I may not know who you your person is) as well as the following information:
NAME
AGE
OCCUPATION
MEMBERSHIP (how and when you joined the party)
FAME (the political things you are know for; IE are you a reformer, a hardliner, etc)

Next, "updates" to the game will come in the form of official news. The first update is here:

POLITICS
7 new members have been elected to the Politburo with terms starting in the new year. They will preside over what will be an independent country after Parliament voted to break with Canada earlier in the year. We will present profiles on each member as they become available.

MEDIA
As instructed by Parliament, THE SPUD presents its statement of assets.

THE SPUD is the only legal media outlet on the Island.

THE SPUD has 1 Television station, callsign CBCT, based in Charlottetown. A Re-Broadcasting tower, built in 1987, exists in St. Louis in Prince County (Western PEI). Broadcasts begin at 5am and end at 2am.

THE SPUD has 2 Radio stations. CFCY, based in Charlottetown, which can be heard all across the island due to the high broadcast power, CJRW, based in Summerside, which can also be heard across the island, but which, since the liberalisation of the media, has been recorded as difficult to access in the eastern parts of the Island.

THE SPUD has 3 Print editions. The Flagship THE SPUD with a print run of 50,000 domestic, is published every day and delivered free of charge to all resident households, and workplaces. SUNDAY which is a weekly publication focusing on international news. And LIFE, which is a magazine published monthly, and is focuses on arts, culture, and is targeted towards tourists.

ECONOMICS
The budget for next year is projected to have a revenue of $1,200,000,000 and expenditures of $3,600,000,000.

Also on the economic front, the now famous ship, the Slough, remains in port in Charlottetown. The ship, which officially belongs to Great Britain, has been unable to sail for that nation due to the violence in its homeland.
The ship carries gold, valued at around $800 an ounce, or, $25,000,000 a tonne. The ship is famous as it carries 320 tonnes of gold, the entire British reserve. The ship was on its way home from the USA when the civil war broke out.
The crew, noting the situation at home, has asked for asylum, and has been assisting the government in whatever the government has asked of of them. While Britain has requested the ship be returned, it is busy fighting its own civil war, and has been unable to effectively do anything to enforce this demand.

Unemployment has fallen to 21% in the latest reports.

Tourism numbers are way down due to the revolutions across the Western World.
=============================================

Note the real world price of gold was close to $400 US; you can use this as a guide to help you figure out money.

You'll notice those budget numbers. You'll also notice a lot of gold. I'll tell you right now, flat out, that the consequences of not returning the gold will be very, very low. In effect, this gold is yours to play with, and it will run out eventually. This gives you $8 billion dollars.

Depending on how players react, I may also allow you to pick a cabinet among Parliament. If I do this, I will include the names of certain Parliamentarians, as well as some of their stats, like, are they competent, corrupt, good public speakers, etc etc.
