This makes me want a new game mode that's just a huge war between identical nanotrasen and syndicate stations (with the syndicate having its own janitors, botanists, clowns etc on their station)

I highly support this for two reasons. Firstly, it'd be insane and lead to hilarious banter between the factions, and secondly because the syndicate could have a blue clown. Bring him back!

Imagine gang mode in space with dogfights and impromptu raids on the enemy station. Last station standing wins and you get a bonus if you destroy the enemy escape shuttle before it reaches centcom.

Maybe the build server could be tweaked a bit to have that kinda stuff? Build up your stations, including defenses. Later, build pods to attack each other.
