I feel like a "gimmick kit" that comes with a traitor item and some largely cosmetic items that might otherwise be annoying to get at a slightly increased cost could be a good compromise.  Like, a wrestling kit would be a wrestling belt plus a silly mask and outfit for one more TC.  Or a Mobile Suit kit, which comes with Power Gloves and the mobile suit costume, so you can shout "THIS HAND OF MINE GLOWS WITH AN AWESOME POWER" without scrounging up the cash.
