I think it should be a console located at the Future ship that could choose between a few versions of a new azone.

Maybe you would need to perform certain things in it to progress in another era.

Maybe make it so that you would have to repair the ship just a bit for it to function

Perhaps you need to somehow save the guy in the sleeper.
