So changelings are really weak when they come up against more than 1 person at a time and basically 100% fucked when there's more than 2 because after the acid and the neurotoxin sting they have no actual effective attacks and must resort to hitting people with the nearest heavy object like everyone else, and your big idea is "let's reduce the number of people that this ageless monster (which has spent thousands of years assembling the best genetic material within itself to create a perfect, relentless killing machine with no purpose other than to feed on sweet human innards) can fight effectively from 1 to 0", thus rendering it so harmless that when it screams in hunger with ten thousand voices and attempts to suck out a man's organs through a tube people will treat it as if it's an overactive kitten trying to claw them and just kind of push it away gently so as not to hurt its fragile bones because everyone kind of feels sorry for it now.
