I am okay with ghosts being able to learn from people doing things, personally.

I agree.

I think people are too afraid to talk about chemistry recipes, and the secrecy is actually taking away from the game more than anything. When people ask for recipes in Mentorhelp, I will tell them to ask their fellow scientists for help, that's what the research headsets are for. But once in a while they will respond that even their fellow scientists are too afraid to give up nonspecific recipes.

As was my understanding, the recipe "secrecy" was intended to keep casual talk about recipes off the general headsets and between scientists and the RD. I'm not sure that's actually what is happening now, though.
