Ghosts shouldn't be able to examine beakers - Weavel - 05-28-2013 Because a ghost that sits over chemistry can watch good chemists making secret things with zero work involved on their end Re: Ghosts shouldn't be able to examine beakers - enforcer9 - 05-28-2013 but muh secrets Re: Ghosts shouldn't be able to examine beakers - Armchair - 05-28-2013 How do you intend to stop the ghosts from uncovering the secrets with a few moments on google? Pretty much all of those 'secrets' are only a few keystrokes away at any time. Re: Ghosts shouldn't be able to examine beakers - Weavel - 05-28-2013 If you can find grog or booster enzymes or any of the other genuine secrets on google, something has gone wrong It's pretty antifun to get messages ingame and in deadchat and shit from people begging for recipies, and knowing someone's floating over you examining your beakers while you make some complicated shit you worked on for ages is lame chemistry world problems Re: Ghosts shouldn't be able to examine beakers - Klayboxx - 05-28-2013 Weavel Wrote:If you can find grog or booster enzymes or any of the other genuine secrets on google, something has gone wrong If grog was commonly known that would be terrible. All the melted things and all the CAPTAINS And I just realized booster enzymes are actually useful now, I have to get around to figuring that one out. Re: Ghosts shouldn't be able to examine beakers - Xanatov Valerius - 05-28-2013 I am okay with ghosts being able to learn from people doing things, personally. But I also don't agree with religiously making chemistry recipes impossible to dig up without extensive experimentation, so I think I'm probably an exception to what people prefer around here in this regard. Chemistry has plenty of nice things you can make with almost 0 effort, but the fun things are generally kept hidden etc. Re: Ghosts shouldn't be able to examine beakers - Wydamn - 05-30-2013 Xanatov Valerius Wrote:I am okay with ghosts being able to learn from people doing things, personally. I agree. I think people are too afraid to talk about chemistry recipes, and the secrecy is actually taking away from the game more than anything. When people ask for recipes in Mentorhelp, I will tell them to ask their fellow scientists for help, that's what the research headsets are for. But once in a while they will respond that even their fellow scientists are too afraid to give up nonspecific recipes. As was my understanding, the recipe "secrecy" was intended to keep casual talk about recipes off the general headsets and between scientists and the RD. I'm not sure that's actually what is happening now, though. Re: Ghosts shouldn't be able to examine beakers - david2222121 - 05-30-2013 But then we get people like Lane Stewart, who ask and beg for various recipes, then brag about knowing them and abusing the hell out of them. Granted, he's an extreme case, but he's made me a tad more cautious about telling recipes like Bath Salts or Hairgrownium to people. Re: Ghosts shouldn't be able to examine beakers - BadActor - 05-30-2013 Hairgrownium has a recipe? Also, you can't stop people from throwing around various recipes. I remember when drugs were a huge thing and Kingston Hugsak and Quentin Boggles were just giving out the recipes to anyone who asked and I don't think they ever got punished for being the arrogant douches that they are. Well, I appreciate knowing the recipes now, but eh. Re: Ghosts shouldn't be able to examine beakers - enforcer9 - 05-30-2013 I remember the first round I learned Sorium's recipe What a round that was I don't know about other people, but I actually keep the beakers I use for recipes in my pocket/backpack so I don't have to move around grabbing beakers. I got a warning pm from an admin for giving away the recipe for stabilizing agent on mentorhelp, so uhh.. Also, the latter point is what really happens. Normally sharing recipes are common, 1 for 1 as such Re: Ghosts shouldn't be able to examine beakers - Klayboxx - 05-30-2013 Regular things are usually ok to share, such as non-harmful things or fun things that don't really harm people. Pretty much any of the recipes you can easily find online are assumed to be common knowledge so I wouldn't think it's a big deal to share those recipes. But the ones that are more vague and confusing, or can cause serious harm or be exploited easily are supposed to be sort of an "in-crowd" type thing. I don't necessarily agree with this though, if you don't want the player base to know about a chemical than just don't have a make-able recipe for it. I mean shit, I finally figured out boosters by shoving random shit into a watering can and seeing what gels. Later I was making some to test it and I got my ass chewed about even daring to know that recipe and who told me and how they couldn't fathom that I had made booster enzymes and how dare I make it where people could hear the reaction. If it's too good or too strong for players to know about just don't have it available for them to make, dang. It's ridiculous you can get banned for telling people a recipe. You mean no harm and they want to know - there isn't a way in hell that some Joe Shmoe is going to figure out how to make some of the more complex things just by pulling things out of his ass. And you're all lying if you say you haven't had help with at least a few recipes in your time playing. Honestly the only ones I've legit figured out by myself is boosters and itching powder, and I've been playing for two years. Re: Ghosts shouldn't be able to examine beakers - Captain_Bravo - 05-30-2013 I think the air of secrecy, and threatening bans is just retarded. Lane Stewart is always cited as an example, (with good reason) but don't forget what happened to him. He got banned for being a cockwipe. In my opinion, that's the proper way to handle it. Don't make things unfun for other people by being secretive assholes and bitching out anyone who tries to help someone else have fun at the game. Just ban the people who abuse things. Yeah, using and abusing are two different things. |
