I like the idea of making NPC traders more accessible, but overhauling the bar seems like a bad place to start.
And there isn't technically anything stopping Players from setting up shop in the bar, the Credit transfer device is right there on the bar.

My argument against this is that the bar gets more people loitering around and it fits the kinda star trek vibe that traders and merchants would hang around in the social area of the station. People typically nyoom right past QM since there's no proper lobby for hanging around in.

That said, I could see both areas having merchants appear and just making the kinda goods they sell match the area. Bar for shady deals on contraband and possibly stolen goods, market area for more legitimate merchandise but more strictly relating to industry items.
