Application for Mentorship
#1
Usual character name: Raoul Aethyr Matter
BYOND username: Kaedrin18
Discord username (if you are on our discord): kaze10
Recommended by (if applicable): N/A
Goon servers you play: 3 and 4

Reason for application + game experience (300 word minimum):
I want to help people out in the game with the knowledge I do have, I try to help people in character and out, and whilst not as knowledgable as some other mentors may be, or even some regular players. I do at least know enough to help new people or returning ones with basics, and can specialise in an area or two at least. An example being that Ranni Stella whom had never played as a QuarterMaster in Cargo, said I did a good job in teaching them how it works overall, starting them off easy and explaining more as it goes on.

I have also done the same in mining to a limited degree, helping someone who was new there by explaining things, whilst not able to do all the tools, or even what is a good nanofabricated mining tool. I taught them the basics for filling up oxygen, how to recharge things, alongside what resource counted for what in the fabricator, and offering a goal of sorts. Namely that they could easily mine more things safely with better armour, so they should aim for those materials first. Alongside to scan before mining via the magnet.

Whilst I do lack knowledge entirely in engineering, and only know the bare basics of things like the Medical training, Robotics, Botany, Science, and to a degree Chef. I do try to offer help however I can either in or out of character, trying to not disturb the roleplay going on, or if it is disturbed, trying to minimalise it as much as possible. Maintaining impartial advice and doing the best I can to assist however I may be able.

For experience I have played over 1,700 rounds on the RP servers combined, a majority of rounds I have done have involved me playing as a QuarterMaster, Miner, Geneticist and some time as a Chef and Bartender. I have also been a variety of antagonist roles, I haven't done any engineer work due to it feels very complex to me, but I have tried most other roles out at least once or twice. Aside from Chief Engineer, Medical Director and other locked Roles such as NTSC and HoS.

Previous bans (while this will not affect your application lying about it will): No bans thus far, but have had a warning or two if I recall correctly.

I know Kaedrin for a while now I would say, they are a calm player and are eager to help newer players, I saw this multible times that they offered help and from what I saw did it always in a friendly way.
From a Mentor I would expect them to be calm and nice while answering questions, and Kaedrin does have these characteristics from what I saw so far.
I would say they would be a good addtion to the Mentors.

I once, as an antagonist, stole Raoul's pod and rammed them out of the airlock with it. They were able to take that on the cheek and laugh a little, and I think that sort of resilience is really admirable in someone who will be helping new and experienced players with all sorts of questions. Plus, they've been a helpful and friendly face whenever I've seen them around outside of that incident, and I think being welcoming and making others feel like they can reach out to you for help is equally helpful when you're a mentor.

Overall, I think Kaedrin would be a good mentor, and I give them a +1! space bear

From what I've seen of you, I cannot say I've ever seen you help in-game - Not that this doesn't happen, just that I've never seen it - I also don't believe I've ever seen you help in the discord either, which I really would like to see before I could recommend you. Also, from your own admission in the discord, you've gotten frustrated when people have tried to provide help, to me this is an issue as a pretty big part of being mentor is being willing to learn more past your current experience and accepting that you will be wrong and people will teach you things.

At this time, I don't have any strong opinions on you becoming Mentor. Neutral, leaning towards a -1.

It is entirely fair feedback, and is true, albeit that's in part due to a mental condition, where I tend to get a bit overwhelmed if I don't understand something. Unfortunately as of the time writing this reply, I am unable to assist such via the discord due to problems outside my control. But it's less a "I do my best to help everyone always" currently, more a "I try to help / weigh in impartially with subjects I do know" so to speak?

Hi, I have seen you on discord and in game a bunch of times but I don't think it is enough to comment on whether or not you'd be a good mentor. I will say I agree that I haven't seen you help anyone in those times. What I have seen, in-game, is that you tend to stick to one or two people that you speak to constantly. Especially in one round, I saw you latejoin, immediately PDA message one specific person, and proceed to go where they were and talk to only them for the remainder of the round while ignoring everyone else. I think if you want to help, you need to be willing to spread out a bit, or you won't really be able to find anyone to help. You don't seem to want to speak to new players or people that may seem new, that is a bit concerning. Is all, best of luck!

Of course, such is understandable and I have been informed of this and have been trying to get that type of behaviour out of the way, as it doesn't benefit a lot of people. The main trouble though is just sometimes I ain't where the new people may be, and some don't tend to either ask, or stick around to chat. Not passing the blame onto them, more explaining why it may seem as such. I do want to improve, and if I do need to improve further and try again down the line, then I shall.
