Mentor Application: Kremlins - kremlin - 12-07-2017

Usual Character Name: Kremlin Jenkins
BYOND Username: Kremlins
Recommended by (if applicable): N/A
Times Available: Evenings/Nights/Early Morning CST

Reason for Application + Game Experience (300 word minimum):

I've been playing SS13 on goonstation (and no other stations) on and off for a while. I started playing it maybe in 2011 (or sometime around then) and learned little, again in 2015-2016 (learned a lot) and again in late 2017 to now. Total, I'd guess maybe 5mo. ss13 experience. I've played all the jobs and know each one well enough to be able to help most questions (I imagine). I have a good understanding of the general playstyle on goonstation ss13 and can advise on more abstract questions. Similarly, I feel I have a good handle on the rules/expected behaviors/criteria for fairness in place and feel comfortable responding to "would it be ok if I did X" type questions.

Something I think would be relevant here is the ability to extrapolate on mentor questions. I have played ss13 on goonstation long enough that I have personally run into many general issues likely to be encountered by players and feel that I have a good grasp of reading between the lines and getting at what a player really is asking.

I really enjoy helping people in this game which is a consequence of the fact I really enjoy this game and wish to see people engage with it more thoroughly. I believe I would make a good mentor. I am a very patient person who enjoys teaching people things. I have a good sense for the balance between providing enough information to be helpful in a capacity, but not provide too much as to coddle the player or create an expectation of an inappropriate amount of hand-holding. "Teach a man to fish".

I'm very familiar, and in fact tightly engaged in IRC which I believe is the platform the mentor system operates on. I'd have no trouble using this system.

Beyond my ingame expertise, I'm pretty familiar with writing code for BYOND/goonstation and am able (and willing!) to help in this capacity as well.

Previous Bans (While this will not affect your application lying about it will): None

thanks!

This alone should qualify you.
You have my support

If I could I'd nominate you for head coder. Mentor's pretty much the same thing. An airy yes from me!

RE: Mentor Application: Kremlins - Sundance - 12-10-2017

You possess a significant grasp on atmos code, and can actually code it. That alone puts you head above the rest.

You'll soon find that mentor isn't all it's cracked up to be though, it's mostly "halp how do I pee n glass" and other trivial questions. But very occasionally we'll get questions that eludes even the best of mentors, and it's people such as yourself that could really help us out there.

A yes from me.

RE: Mentor Application: Kremlins - Cirrial - 12-10-2017

Very yes.

RE: Mentor Application: Kremlins - Avack - 12-10-2017

Can't speak for how you are in game (though that's my problem, if anybody's), but you've always seemed a good sort on IRC, Discord and the forums. Count me as a "yes".
