Asshats are now catching on to this whole client crashing debacle, and I've seen more and more people use the rapid fire mode on the tasers because it freezes up the client of the target. This means that if you're a wizard/vamp/ling or whatever and your hit with this volley, where before you'd be able to cast a spell or whathaveyou, now you can't due to the client freezing. So now it's a viable form of a defense against these antagonists, which never ever should be.

I'm not the kind of person to go "PLEASE FIX THIS" but if this could maybe be bumped up a bit in the priority, as it leaves a very bad taste in ones mouth where this is game-breaking aspect is effecting a large majority of the player-base, and it's for something very minor due to overlays. Goon servers already suffers from lag without this problem. Remove overlays if you have to.

This seems like it should be the number one thing that they should be trying to fix. This issue is god awful and now people are going to start abusing it! AWESOME

I'm getting the same issue, but not a crash, just a several-second freeze. It seems to also sometimes occur when the shuttle is departing with the big flashy background, but not quite to the same extent.

My computer isn't that great, but this definitely didn't happen before.

Whenever I get stunned, knocked our or passed out I tend to have the same several-second freezes. But every now and then I get a full on crash. This issue has been around so long and it is so bad that I've stop playing Space station as often as I used to. It kills the game for me.

Re: client crashing whenever you go unconscious - parf - 06-30-2015

so basically this is linked to the overlays, right?
if it is, then maybe load the overlays at the start of the round for everyone so it doesn't become an issue later on. though this will backfire to the people who get crashes from these. so hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

but anyway i get these too, as soon as i get hit by a smoke overlay it freezes for a couple of seconds until i see the smoke overlay itself.
same thing happens with the new shuttle background thing when it's warping to centcomm.
also whenever i go unconscious too!!!

The overlays are part of the data you receive at round start, though.

Seems like this is an issue with dreamseeker to be honest. Maybe we need a sort of fall-back solution for people experiencing this.

In the interim we'll test reducing the amount of frames on animated overlays.

It happens with animated overlays, but not the overlays for, say, going into critical and getting that big grey shade thing

I've not experienced this and had no clue it was crashing others, now I feel bad for using burst fire. Far as I knew it just instantly blacked you out which is what it does for me.

I'd like to note a lot of my crashes were fixed by updating internet explorer and flash on internet explorer. As a google chrome user I'd never have done that had a byond forum not suggested it.

I had IE updated for awhile now and still get these issues. I don't think it's hardware cause people have said they have great PCs and still have this issue.

Re: client crashing whenever you go unconscious - vampirate - 06-30-2015

Could be a graphics card issue. Given the ancient codebase there may be a conflict. I know a lot of games that use OPENGL just straight up won't run on ATI (AMD) graphics cards for whatever reason.

Like I said I don't think it's that seeing how I've been running space station on my old PC for the past five years and others who have better PCs then I have stated they have the same issue.

Re: client crashing whenever you go unconscious - vampirate - 06-30-2015

Not saying it's an issue of quality and ability, but of the specifc types of graphic cards. Brand new grapics cards released by amd (the high dollar ones) can often fail to render older games that use Opengl and even some newer ones simply because both opengl and amd don't support each other. Quality of computer isn't going to affect compatibility issues when it comes to graphics cards. It's apples and oranges.

Re: client crashing whenever you go unconscious - Noah Buttes - 06-30-2015

I'm using an Nvidia GPU, so I don't think it has anything to do with AMD.

Re: client crashing whenever you go unconscious - vampirate - 06-30-2015

That was just an example. The exact type of issue may be entirely different. I'd look at features present or disabled, slot types, and so on. Have people post their system specs and go from there looking for common themes.
