Don't people spawn with random garbage keys sometimes?
Does this special condition happen to the person 100% of the time if they happen to be the only person present upon round start?

I have no real evidence to back it up, but I'm fairly certain that the round start backpack key thing isn't anything specialy. I'm fairly certain that the key is just one of the many items you have a chance of starting with, and nothing more.

No it's something you cannot see. Someone cannot be made this unique.
One player out of all at round start will be designated unique.
I located the unique on LLJK1 but was unable to figure out what made the person unique. It was confirmed that this person was the unique (That and it was the only other person on when I spawned). Once again it was confirmed to be the unique. It's not pathology and it's not a genetic mutation. I tried Medtrak and every type of scanner I could think of.
The only thing I was unable to do was take a DNA reading (The Genetics scan reading) as I did not have the cart. It could possibly be surgical I do not know.
It's there but you haven't seen it yet.
What it is I do not know. The unique person cannot tell that they are unique it requires teamwork to find out what it means.

I can confirm that the "unique" thing is not the random garbage key, because it can also spawn on a random space tile anywhere on the Station z-level. If it doesn't start in a player's backpack, then it's out in space somewhere.

It is a tiny item.
It was inside my skull. I was the only one on, I was the unique.
Valterak came in and cut my skull out and cut the skull open.
Still no idea how to FIND the unique when you have like 40 people but ehhh we know the key is there.
The key is pretty gruesome looking.

The cypher book is the in-game Hydroponics Guide, the necessary content starts after Chapter 1; headlines, tips, Addendums and anything before Chapter 1 is not used.
The cypher code is PWL - Paragraph, Word, Letter (remember that 0's count as the first thing!).
Also note that hyphens count as words!!!
Chapter 1 is paragraphs 0-6, chapter 2 is 7-19, chapter 3 is 20-27, chapter 4 is 28-47.

How to get the numbers: go in-game and tune your headset to 148.7, the male vox will read them off twice in succession every 15 minutes into the round.
The numbers change with every hour, but passwords from the previous hour will still work until the next cycle.
Wire is currently updating the console frequently, and one of the recent additions is the "sudo" command... which apparently requires a completely different password. We're not entirely sure how to get that one yet.
This might be a silly idea, but if the Hydroponics Guide is the key to decoding the cypher, well...

I've tried it during the reading stage. I've given him every book.
we found an old fancy key that if you give to the automaton he crushes it into scrap angrily.
