Mentor Application: Prichard
#1
Usual Character Name: Elias Finch
BYOND Username: Prichard
Recommended by (if applicable):
Times Available: PST Evenings

Reason for Application + Game Experience (300 word minimum):

I got here a little over a year ago. Since then I've learned a little bit about everything there is on the station. I also got a bunch less shitty too, which I think is more important than what I learned. That's basically the entire message I want to get across here.

So I'm going to take this opportunity to provide examples of what I know. Enjoy the Space Resume:

Research

Definitely my strongest field. I know chemistry the best of any field. I've solo'd the solarium bad ending. I have a giant folder full of random secrets. The works

Engineering
I can hellburn and make a zillion trillion dollars as the CE. I know some mechanics, enough to use the control unit and power networking. Packet stuff, I can pop lockers/doors and spoof my way into DWAINE. I've done some mining and quartermaster too.

Botany/Foods
The first one is botany. Also, I can use every machine in the kitchen and the bar. I even know about the coffee mug rack above the espresso machine.

Basically everything else
What this has been, and will become (if I don't stop now), is basically a vague list of every job on the station with some arbitrary knowledge thrown in for support. But I have no proof that I can actually do any of these jobs, just take my word for it that I've played in every standard area at least a bit. Even pathology.

So my last section is going to be about why I even want to be a mentor. And it's because I believe in this server. Sounds like some shitty line from a drama. Whatever. I've tried a bunch of other servers along the way. This one feels the best so I'm gonna stay here. Might as well answer some questions along the way.

Previous Bans (While this will not affect your application lying about it will):
Twice. Once for maxcap bombing the entire station as a non antag/metacomms. Then I got banned for being a shit borg.

seems promising but i'll try and keep an eye out in the rare occasion i can play lately. i'm not sure that's 300 words but you covered everything
#3
its enough words and yes this man knows his things
#4
Elias is a cool guy and knows a lot. Yes.
#5
Is a cool dude who knows his shit, definitely mentor material
#6
He knows a lot so yes

I reckon Prichard would make a good mentor. I can vaguely recall having misgivings about him at times, but I can't remember anything specific and it seems like he's only gotten better over time. Yes to he.

Knowledge isn't a problem, though I may question his attitude sometimes. Worst case we can always de-mentor folks, I suppose. General note for mentors: you're held to a higher standard for mentorhelps and in OOC chat than regular members. Just something to keep in mind.

The OOC part is news to me. All I've been told is to not cross into metagame territory when helping people. This is the first I've ever heard about any OOC restrictions.

I mean I'm known to be really rude sometimes in the game and in OOC but I've never been told I'd be de-mentor for it. Plus a few weeks ago a bunch of mentors ganged up on a player for the way he played security and from what I know none of them got in any trouble for their behavior. I'm referring to a recent admin complaint where this was discussed. I'll I ever been told since being made into a mentor/HoS in 2014 was "Don't cross into metagaming territory when helping people though mentorhelps and don't use the knowledge you gain though mentorhelps in a current round"

Not looking to derail, so if you wish to discuss this further please do so via another post/in IRC. In a nutshell: as a mentor, if someone is asking how to do something in OOC you shouldn't be insulting them for not knowing it. Yes, it's a different channel than mentorhelp, but still one that people may use to learn. Outside of that, do whatever (within server rules).

Nah that clears it up. I thought you meant being rude in generally. Thanks for clearing that up.

I've played with em' and've had no problems that I can recall.

Lot of game time with Pritchard, I totally vouch for him. Solid player, good temperament nowadays.

I thought you were a mentor already and you know more then me in some fields so yes.

You used to be a bit rude but from what I've seen you've changed a lot <3 +1.
