decentralize the brig and instead have minibrigs all over the station
#1
while i know this idea is too far reaching i would find something like this more appealing if i were to play as a sec officer as it would counteract a major issue presented when trying to escort your prisoner back to the brig:

people attacking/mugging/attempting to free the person you've arrested and just giving you a hard time on the way back to the brig

what i suggest is having little minibrigs such as the one on cog1 that can be found near mining. these minibrigs (located ideally in each major dept, engineering, medbay, research, civilian) would also function as a mini forced labor station for the prisoner.

for example if you brig a malcontent near engineering you could place him upon a segway that upon movement would generate power for the engine/ptl. attempting to dismount the segway would stun the prisoner and alert a sec officer to their location.

for research they could be made to assemble guardbuddies, and for medbay they'd be forced to assemble first aid kids. the civilian one would be forced to eat the chef's bad cooking  made to operate the kitchen themselves or in service of the chef

as a result of this the brig itself could be made into a stockade operated by the hos

i wrote this when i was high and so i hope i think its as good of an idea later when im not high

Certainly not a bad idea per se, but how do you "force" them? If it is under game mechanic, what's stopping them from going braindead in the process?
If it's not a game mechanic, would this require observation from an officer (i.e: wasting an officers time?)
And lastly, how secure are these mini-brigs? Are they fort knox? If not, what's stopping them from busting out? How do you control ANY of the prisoners if they are decentralized? How do you control a security force if it is spread thin across the entire station?

nothing from keeping them from going braindead. the stuff they do could also positively benefit them later directly, like the medkits

no, if they attempt to break out from the minibrig, the allah goes off to alert the security officers via pda, and would automatically either cuff or shackle the prisoner to help prevent escape (avoidable if they walk out than run)

and to escape i suppose they'd be surrounded by rwall from the side, and glass windows from the south, facing space, or whichever direction that requires it to be facing space. and for the security officer question providing there is a functioning physical force and not just a lone officer + detective with a stun baton, radio communication is key

I also don't think this is a bad idea, but I think it's something the station would have to be designed with this idea in mind. Implementation on current stations means moving a lot of things around.

I'm assuming these rooms also work as Sec outposts, where they can recharge gear and hang out in.

I can kinda see these mini brigs as being more for the minor crimes, and there being a more secure brig for the major ones.

The mini ones could have a chute to send people there.

And maybe you can give heads access to the brigs in their area, so they can sorta act as the person who keeps watch over them and lets them out when they've deemed them as having completed a suitable amount of work?
