Give D.O.C. the ability to perform surgery.
#1
So I found D.O.C. and was pretty damn excited that I could buy augmentations. However, I was quickly disappointed when I found out that he only gives you the item, rather than installing it. My point is, if I'm paying him for something I can easily get for free, he might as well give me the surgery. Even if I had to pay separately for surgery, at least then it would be viable.

this sounds like a very fun idea and raises the question of why there can't be auto-docs to perform surgery in medbay and robotics

Robotics is stale enough, we don't need this as well. Medbay I'm up for.

D.O.C doing surgery himself is a good idea, maybe even give him a chance to mess up. Like that NASSA guy. Poor NASSAman.

Only if it has the most godawful bedside manner.

It'd also have to be expensive as I seriously doubt your HMO counts a shady, back-asteroid parts dealer as a PCP specialist.

As interesting the thought I really haven't put forth any effort into guessing how abused this could be. Don't really care to right now either; too swamped with shit to do. RIP.

Serious question:
Why bother when people can self surgery on themselves?

Don't get me wrong, i've argued that we should substitute the glitchy stand/rest/stand self surgery with a more robust form of limb substitute (such as crutches and wheelchairs and stuffing things into your stubs to act as shitty limbs), limb replacement (botanical limbs could bypass surgery) and last but not least, something like your idea where we'd have something akin to the fallout autodoc which would replace limbs and stuff for an inflated price.
D.O.C could be something similar to the autodoc, but medicine is sold literally seperately.

..But the question still stands
Why bother?

how about give player medborgs the ability to perform surgeries

well, they can already do the cutting stuff out part of the surgery

but not the putting stuff back in part

which is kind of an important part

God I would love some sort of only-for-medical-use hand for medborgs. I'm just trying to think of what would be acceptable criteria for only medicinal uses for surgery.

Then again I guess there's the risk of rogue borgs shoving parts in the wrong places, I would say if the surgery system allowed for that. Paging Dr. Haine to the ideas forum?

Maybe it sense whether or not the item in question is organic? So it can only touch body parts
