is the byond website shitting the bed for anyone else

I don't really use the byond website, so I don't know, but I'm curious as to why you're using byond's site. If you're using it to connect to Goonstation servers, use Goonhub or the wiki.

I can't really think of a reason to besides connecting to servers from other SS13 groups, but I'm assuming that most of those servers are similar to Goon in that they have a way to connect to the server other than the byond website.

Now then, I've also just realized that I may be being an idiot and that being logged into a byond account may require access to byond's site, in which case, sorry, I haven't noticed anything off with byond.

if we're talking about byond being shitty: ever since the 5.0 update i've had to reupdate byond whenever I start it for the first time. the next time i turn my computer on again and start it, it needs to be reupdated. does this happen to anyone else?
