Ideas for Space pod/Space centered jobs
#16
Oh geez I hit submit on accident.

For a proper vault, you need to take a ladder first, to prevent special types of cheating, such as locker and crate blocking, however even that can't stop things like the port-a-sci.

It'd also have to technically be on the secret z-level, to avoid telecheating, however the ladder could just act as a portal to the secret z-level, considering it already kind of does.

The walls would of course need to be destruction-proof.

Maybe even some DWAINE stuff to get in.

Enemies should be ranged, as melee ones rely too much on stuns and knockdowns.

Maybe some wire fixing and generator starting should be involved. How many people actually know how to work an experimental generator?

Some things shouldn't be purely enemy based, though. Perhaps some failure states would involve releasing a combination of plasma and nitrous oxide, and then creating a spark to ignite the plasma. Or failing could result in a room lock-down and the arming of a canister bomb that spawns in and can be disarmed. Or death foam could be released. Or electrical shock could be induced.

A neat series of complicated and difficult puzzles to a nice little payoff would certainly be interesting.

I was just thinking a thing people can rob as a space challenge,

Hard mode for a mining vault would be solo, because you could add "bad things" if they hit the wrong switch, or cut the wrong wire. Some of your ideas for that sound cool.

Note that since these things would probably be separated by a ladder and a zlevel, there's not a whole lot of likelyhood some nerd figures out how to turn vault traps into station disasters. e.g no spawning a portal to send all the robot guards or angry bees into the station.

Of course making it "ULTRA TOUGH" to crack, including putting part of it in the secret zlevel would make it all the more of a fun challenge for the aspiring looter.

Also it would be cool if the vault entrance was concealed in an asteroid. That way you'd need green goggles just to even see "there's a hole with a strange door in it"

Mostly because the idea that someone would hide a vault with treasure inside an asteroid would be neat.

TG has an ultra hard vault to hack into, I kinda think it would be neat if there was a space vault in the asteroid belt that would be just as hard to crack. There's a few safes you can crack into, and a vault with sec drones in it, but more space crime is fun.

Like add some AI turrets, and maybe some security bots, and a bolted door. Throw some cash/drugs/whatever behind it and challenge people to crack it open.

Crime of the century.
I agree. There's lots of things you can do over on the mining z-level, sure, but the vast majority of them are either giant question marks that may or may not have cool stuff but are almost entirely useless until someone figures it out (e.g. the drone corpse) or are just alcoves in the middle of nowhere with some cool stuff and abandoned crates. There's variety in setting, but significantly less variety in content, or at the very least content readily usable by the common explorer. More places like Hemera, sprawling and hostile places filled with dangers but considerable loot, would be a welcome sight.
Yeah, you are spot on here.
Even the current locations could at least be made more dangerous,
whilst still keeping their puzzle-nature intact and with more reward too(relevant to the location ideally).
Here's some ideas for currently non exciting locations:
  • Space Bee Hive - Add more bee related stuff, maybe a second bee vendor. you should be able to talk to the overbee and the overbee should give you a bee related objective.
  • Robot factory - hostile malfunctioning robots and actually have some kind of proper reward for going there.
  • Drone corpse - there should be a lower level reward for coming here, maybe a pod weapon/armor? I assume there's a purpose/reward for this anyhow but it's solarium obscurified

If Space Coastguard/Salvager/Explorer were a job, having them spend too much time in one spot might be against the spirit of it.

Rather than having one vault type dungeon, instead break it up into several rooms accessible from diffrent spots in a seperate space field.

Like, have wrecked ships in the debris field, with ladders. Go down the ladders to be taken to the innards of the ships, which are yhe separated rooms on the other z-level.

This way, it's like having a bunch of minidungeons rather than one huge time consuming one.
Even better if the ladders room connections were randomized at round start.

Now is a real good time for space specific jobs. This server has space pods but nobody is in charge of them? There should be a role that is in charge of the podbay, eva and general information. Turn the information office and area below into their work area. They would be a Hangarmaster(like a harbormaster in space)/ space traffic controller.

A Space coast guard would be a good security gimmick job.

Maybe give him/her a pod with a siren.

I think just "Pilot" would be a better job title.

if it werent for the beautiful convenience of our fair belt hell system and cargo transporters, delivering stuff from mining/qm with pods could have been a thing, but now the forklift also exists to even further saturate that niche

an indyputt with better construction capabilities than merely squirting metal foam might encourage engineers to fix breaches in the outer hull more often

uhhh

that salvager idea is kind of nice but its kind of butting in on minings turf
