I don't see a reason to remove the other stuff right now. Making it fit the theme going on with the other virtual stuff might be something for the future, but it's fine right now.

No one uses the go-karts, they're only used during the rare admin go kart events or whenever dad decides to show up. They're just not fun.

Yeah, racing isn't something that this game lends itself well to. Now, maybe if there was some kinda TRON lightcycles type thing, or even just a Twisted Metal demolition derby dealio, that could work.
