Seriously, I didn't know until today that this was an item you could get in surplus crates. Since I've literally never seen it on the station before, I propose a revamp of it to make it more desirable, and therefore more useful.
The new roll of Ducktape fits in your pocket, and can be used to tape any handheld item to any other item. It has a number of units of tape per roll, which allows it to be used for a few different things before it runs out. Taping a small thing to another small thing gives you a ball of tape with parts of both things sticking out. Clicking on the ball of tape with an empty hand will slowly unravel the tape, freeing the items for use. This allows you to store 2 small items in the space of one, but renders them unusable for a while and uses up tape.
Taping a small thing to a large thing(like a locker or something that otherwise can't fit in a backpack) conceals the small item within the large item. Small item only becomes noticeable upon inspection(This is an Emergency Oxygen locker. ...There seems to be something taped to the back of it.), which saves a bunch of sprite work, and can be removed from the large item by click-dragging the large item onto yourself.
On people, the tape works like ghetto handcuffs. Target the arms/hands and use the tape to wrap the victims grubby mits in tape. The victim can hit resist and escape in about 15 seconds, if they stand still, which makes it markedly worse than handcuffs, but with multiple uses per roll to balance it out. If you get the victim on the ground and tie their hands, then target and tie their feet, you hogtie them instead, which can be resisted out of in a minute if the target isn't interrupted. This uses more tape, but keeps the victim on the ground and make it take slightly longer than cuffs to get out of.
Targeting the head of the victim and applying tape tapes their mouth shut. The victim can't talk, except in muffled noises, but can resist out of that(prioritizing the mouth over the hands/feet if that's all taped) in about 2 minutes. Anyone targeting the head of the victim, including the victim, and clicking them with an open hand on anything other than hurt intent will rip the tape off with a sound clip and a few points brute damage.
Targeting your own hands and using tape on yourself adds the tape, sticky side out, to your hands. Disarming someone with sticky hands puts the disarmed item in your hands instead of on the ground. Potentially, this could also allow the wielder to have their pulls treated as basic grabs.
Emagging the tape turns it into Electromagnetic Tape, at the cost of the emag and possibly the tape's sticky properties. One potential use could be sticking the tape into a database and having a weird virus be uploaded to the computer/AI, which would change its laws and make weird things happen that only the AI can see. A law reset would fix the problem.
The tape is also usable as a really shitty replacement for most tools. Anything that can be assembled with tools can be assembled with Ducktape instead, at the cost of some tape and a huge hit to the assembled item's durability, modified by the RNG. Need a table in a hurry? Grab some metal and a roll of tape and build a table! Don't be surprised when slamming an assistant onto the table for the 5th time causes it to fall apart into its base pieces again. Wall knocked out and you don't have a welder? Tape a new metal panel in place to ghetto-seal it. It'll work for a few minutes until the RNG/vacuum of space breaks the tape and vents the atmosphere again.
Duct tape a flashlight to a gun for a nice Doom 3 reference. Instead of a flashlight, a knife could be used to turn the gun into a pretty robust melee weapon. Use a whole roll to tape a person to a wall, or the MULE, or a borg. Tape the nuke disk to a freshly telsci'd in wendigo king and run like hell. Hogtie a hapless assistant, lay them on the crusher belt, and demand ransom while twirling your mustache like Snidely Whiplash. Tape a borg and a quadruple amputee together for the weirdest pair of Siamese twins ever. Tape a knife into a monkey's hand to both enrage it and give it a robust weapon for Fun Hijinks. The possibilities are endless!
