Change Vampire to something unique
#1
At the moment, vampire plays like "changeling but also wizard"

this is really boring and it isn't much different from what we already see; monsters that stun and eat you alone, or fuckers with the power to stun then vanish

Vampires in mythology and modern writing e.g. World of Darkness or whatever are very different, none of this stare-at-you-across-a-room stun glare shit, so I propose a bit of a change to stray from the usual stun-based gameplay

- No fucking stunglare jesus don't we have enough ranged homing stun antagonists already
- Vampire Speed makes you move like you've taken meth for a short burst, quick recharge, available instantly
- Vampire Stalking removes red alerts of you interacting with someone for a little while, no bite message or bonked-with-a-toolbox alerts, just dead silence
- Vampire Thrall available earlier, thralls must drink their vampire master's FRESH blood or lose their connection. Maybe a 20 minute timeframe? 2 thrall limit? idk
- Bats, Phase Shift, Scream, Conciousness Overwhelm etc can all stay, I haven't played vampire in a while but I think they could be a much higher blood cost

Vampire should be about gathering a herd, moving quickly and silently and hunting, draining blood on the sly and not about instantly stunning dumbos across the room and standing still over their body for 2 minutes until they die

Actually I like this idea. Vampires as parasites trying to stay invisible rather than just another mass murderer could be super fun. The trick would be in making sure that the vampire bite was problematic enough to encourage the crew to try to out them (maybe it makes the target swoon a few seconds after the bite and start bleeding out).

In this kind of round, vampires would want to stay mobile and anonymous, and their powers could be more oriented around survival and escape than mass murder.

Didn't they used to give people some kind of disease when they bit them? Keep the stealth bites, but have people get that disease as an incentive for the crew to stop them. Also, don't make blood just act as a resource for vampire powers. They should need that junk to stay alive. Treat it like a drug where they have withdrawal symptoms without it, possibly revealing their vampiric nature or even taking damage.

I think there should still be an ability for a short burst increased strength at a high blood cost, enough to daze a group of people to aid in escape, but not enough to dominate them in a fight.
Also, could we alter phase shift so that it floods the area with some vision obscuring fog, similar to a smoke grenade? One, to aid in the vampire's escape, and two for scary moments when you think you've lost the vampire in the fog for him to show up right behind you.

Vampires are basically changelings with more crowd control capability in exchange for less strength in single combat. I personally think that vampires would be better if they were a corruptive force rather than a destructive one, roaming around the station, constructing dens in secluded maintenance halls, and slowly growing their ranks until they have enough members to overthrow the human crew.

I really like this idea. I can picture the (remaining) human crew holed up in QM, waiting for their life saving lasers to come through as they clutch a Sec ID they got from a corpse, and then the lights go out and the vampires pounce.

Isn't this rev without the need to kill the heads?

Like the last thread I made about nerfing the vampire (back when vamp was insanely strong) everyone has their own idea about how to make the vampire unique.
I agree with you that vampire needs to have more bite (pun intended).

A) The whole reason why vampire is seen as wizling because 1) it can make spells like a wiz and 2) the spells are based off blood points, which is similar to DNA points in a ling. The issue with this is, that when vampire unlocks a power, the power stays unlocked. This is bad as it only encourages vampires to gorge on blood as much as possible and when SHTF spam spells as much as possible due to the fact there's little repercussion. I think it should work backwards as well as forwards, i.e: You unlock vampiric vision at 100, however you will lose this if your blood drops below 100.

B) Pretty much everything you said. There needs to more thralls, less "I stun you, now die" spells and more shit like the stalking and speed you suggested. Both should cost a little blood so vampire is thrifty about how they use their blood due to point A). Vampires needs to alot less offensive and alot more defensive and strategic.

C) This is my opinion but cloak of darkness is (and has always been) shitty. I think it should work as a "corruption" kinda thing where if a vampire casts it then the room and only in that room will the vampire be invisible (including thermals as his body is cold) and only the AI and borgs can see him. This allows vamps to have special lairs to conduct their evil business, drag victims back to, etc, rather than being boring invisible 24/7. This means not only does your average staff assistant can actually flee but it also changes how vampires are hunted, with a more "flush em out" kinda methodology.

D)If the above is implemented, then I think a half invisibility should be introduced, maybe combine it with the "vampiric speed" thing suggested where the players sprite flickers and is difficult to hit/shoot at due the fact it is flickering and the fact the vampire is going fast.

Chaplain should really spawn with a "holy object" like a cross, star of david, or a VHS of Cosmos, that when shown to the vampire (like showing off an ID) inhibits him from using his powers for a few seconds.

Eh, kind of lame.

I kinda like the idea of vampirism being a disease that has to be cured or contained, but at some point that leans close to what jungle fever used to be, bite people as a monkey and convert everyone into a monkey until the crew can't stop you.

Doctors are really terrible at biohazards for the most part, so unless someone plans on making a pathology cure for vampire possible using any random vampire you find, I don't think vampire as a spreadable thing won't turn into rev.

Could always make it really hard to turn someone into a vampire with out getting caught.

Such as having to drain all the blood of a person, and then filling them with some vampire blood, which could take a good amount of time to do both.

That could work.

A vampire could just carry a syringe of vampire blood and if they want to save their victim they can inject.

Perhaps chance of infection could be tied to health. critical health is a higher chance of infection, 100% health is a low/0 chance of infection.

A vampire would have to resuscitate it's victim in order to have a vampire servant or hope that the odds are in their favor, so infection would take longer.

fighting off the infection could also convert vampire blood into an antidote.

Inject someone or a monkey with vampire blood at full health and if they don't turn extract the blood and now you have antibodies for pathology to look at. Otherwise you have a brain dead vampire monkey.

This almost sounds like vampire spy mode.
But that isn't a bad thing.

The vampire bite infection should be a debilitating disease, that may or may not lead to death. Maybe the vampires hypnosis spells would only work on people infected?

As for turning other people into vampires, that should strictly be a vampire spell. But maybe the vampires blood could be used in pathology to create a cure/vaccine?

This would be a good idea to make them easier to catch; the longer they go without blood, the more their skin turns gray and their hair turns black, like a stereotype vampire
