The change to pugs barking
#1
I'm posting here mostly to rant and rave to the abyss over something that was changed and I feel it was changed unfairly that being pugs and the woof emote.

We like to bark. The mail courier? Must be barked at. Stranger danger? Barked at. Other pugs? Bark at one another to converse with one another. But now we can't.

the one second cool down has removed the ability to basically be silly. I'm not saying something should of been done to stop spamming of ANY emote. But this seems unfair seeing as it was a pug specific one and one that I've spoken to other pug players and not once have we had any complaint regarding the woof emote up until yesterday where one player voiced their annoyance due to a headache - Which if a game where a lot of noises can happen maybe it's not our fault.

As such I'm complaining for the most part at that. One player was able to basically ruin something various other pug players have had no complaints against them, no admin input or anything and has resulted in something that was changed and has in turn ruined something for us. Spam must be dealt with but this to me feels unfair.

I have seen the stamina change on the PR, I don't really like it but it's an acceptable change to prevent spam. I would personally prefer to see something like getting a "sore throat" debuff that would prevent further barking for a while.

Anyway that's my rambling rant. It's over something so minutely stupid but my main complaint is that one person has ruined something for us and if our barking was such an issue why has there been no other complaints.

All sound-producing emotes are supposed to have a 1 second cooldown.  If barking bypassed that, that wasn't a design decision, it was a bug.

It was not changed due to a single person's feedback. It was missed when the other mutantrace emotes were given consistent emote cooldowns due to the way the code is structured.

I feel like 1 second is too much for a bark cooldown, I do belive that audio emotes should have a cooldown, I feel like 1 second is too punishing for pugs because it's such a short audio, perhaps it could be lowered to 0.5?

To be honest I dislike most constant spam of any sound, for a short bit it can be funny but if people do it for sometimes multiple minutes its not funny anymore and more annoying, I think its a good thing that it costs stamina I think its also a funny change to that, also it was a bug anyway, you can still bark, you dont need to turbo spam the bark to have the same effect of the joke behind it in my opinion

Not even touching the rest of the post, but this is an incredibly rude thing to say about someone who was physically affected by sound spam in the game and just asked the person next to them to stop. Frankly, this has been an ongoing discussion in admin chat, because giving players the ability to spam ANY sound in the game tends to lead to this.

Someone else's pain did not ruin anything for you.

I loved when a pug came running past barking, felt like something a pug would do.

So what I insted recommend... is a multibark emote or hyperbark emote... with a 10 second cooldown and a stamina cost next to the normal bark.
Hyperbark will cost stamina and make you gasp.

I think the change to it being stamina dependend is perfectly in line with other stamina related pug things. A pug barking themselves into falling over in exhaustion seems very fitting. And tbh, any reduction in sound spam is a good change. This seems like a nice middle ground
