Reason for application + game experience (300 word minimum):

Simply put, i'm used to helping people learn the game in general and i try to do it when the opportunity comes up. I've been in situations where everyone else is wanting to get up and get moving while i stop to teach somebody (One case being a Conscripted Security clown teaching a guy how to hack a door when i saw them having trouble, before arresting them for it, of course). So generally i'd like to be able to continue that and, even if not actively playing, be able to pop in discord and quickly respond to questions (or similar while in game, for that matter). I generally like to make myself useful though wherever i'm playing, so this is a relatively easy way to do that. I've been playing this game for a very long time, so the opportunity to help those who are learning to switch hands in particular is pretty valuable to me in general.

Experience:

My practical experience with goon is about 3-4 months between bouts of playing the game throughout the years, but i got around ~10 years experience in general with codebases that aren't goon, so a lot of the stuff that applies decently universally (how to switch hands, basic shit, and more universal byond/DM quirks) i'm very experienced with, and there's a decent amount of shared mechanics too between both.

Command: Pretty decent. I generally play a pretty chill captain in general. It's mainly about round flow if you're going for a active captain though, you don't want to order someone's execution 15 minutes in if you can help it, or be too strict on people. Even on the RP server it's really just about being someone with extra access, tools to get shit done, and being a source of in round teaching for the new people or a knowledgebase maybe for the more experienced. Short of head of security, command is generally pretty chill in general.

Engineering: I enjoy it, i lean more on the more basic engineer who focuses on fixing shit, but i'm slowly learning more and more about the complexities of the rest of it. Like how to get specific engines to produce more, mechcomp and how it can interact with other areas of engineering to help automate a lot of things. Saying that, if we pull in mining and and supply here, i think i enjoy those more? Mining is quite chill after a potentially stressful round (but still wanting to play), and being a QM is just satisfying making a funny number go up (and knowing the ways to make that number go up faster). The complexities of engine setup i want to know more about, but that's really just time and some skilled engineers to learn under i think.

Security: This is pretty universal, it's mainly just the specific culture of here which i spent some time learning as a secass before going into playing secoff immediately. I somewhat enjoy security, it is really dependant on the specific people you're working with and what you're dealing with though, it can be quite stressful. I have in general really enjoyed detective lately though, it's a really chill alternative to the stress of being a outright secoff and i appreciate that. I think maybe there should be some time requirements as secass before going into secoff though, debatable, but i do see a lot of new people joining as secoff without playing as it or spending much time learning the vibe really, and ignoring any efforts to teach that because they're now playing secoff and assume it's just people being picky about their sec play, a bit of a shame.

Silicons: This is probably what i play most short of clown, AI in particular but i'll never turn down a good cyborg round. I like the interpretations of laws here compared to a lot of places, because it's pretty unregulated in comparison to where i'm used to? There isn't a page of silicon policy you have to keep handy on another monitor, it's mainly just some guidelines, common pitfalls, and gentle pushing if needed. I try to play AI in particular being helpful, but not overly. It's a point of debate (the 'get good' argument is very valid here), but i generally don't intervene in what antagonists are doing unless i get asked, or it threatens me and/or station integrity as a whole,  while also making sure those people know how they got caught one way by the AI so they can learn, and become a better antag as a result.

Civilian: I play clown a lot, i enjoy it quite a bit. It took some time to get the vibe of here down for optimal clowning but it has been great once i got it down. Lots of janitor too, but honestly while i know the basics of them i honestly haven't touched the other civilian jobs like botanist, bartender, chef, etc too much? Historically on other codebases they're fun, but not complex enough for me to really be interested. Here there's enough complexity to them that i'm quite interested and definitely need to play more of them. My only peeve really is that hydroponics on any map doesn't feel big enough for the 5(ish) botanist slots you generally have open? But that could just be me not making very good use of my trays.

Medical: I like medical i lot. I personally like genetics the most, it's chill, but i also have gone through the motions of regular doctoring and robotcist..ing and find it pretty chill too, even when it's hectic. Some would say it's maybe too easy and should be more complex? They're not strictly wrong but it is a hard balance between being too easy and being too complex i think, i remember playing bay a long time ago and us having to go through with our trainee equivs for like, 30 minutes to show them the basics, training is good but i don't think it should be that complex here, not just because of that but because the quality of medical as a department in a round can vary quite a bit regardless.

Science: Probably my least played overall, but on goon i've been playing it a lot more since i enjoy the different things to do in it a lot more. My honest main peeve with it is artsci, not because it's bad but because realistically only one person can do it at a time, so it's usually hard to get dibs on the lab before anyone else. Otherwise, i enjoy it quite a bit, and the adventure zone stuff that telesci and similar connect to is honestly peak as well. At some point i have to start going through chemistry too and just compiling for myself ways to make useful stuff faster too, because it's really just one of those areas that you can keep on working at for honestly, months, finding a lot of different ways to get things done with it.

Evil: Yeah, including this. Honestly i'm not the most capital G gamer, so i do struggle with doing a bit sometimes. If i'm already in the flow of a department elsewhere i can get by pretty well, but it can kinda be hard for me to roll lets say, vampire one round and be confident enough to get a bit going without being caught early and set back. Saying that, i think when i can get a bit going (particularly as a traitor) i generally can provide something respectably entertaining for people, even if it tends to be smaller scale. Oddly enough short of traitor, my second favorite antagonist has to probably be salvager, it's quite straightforward and it's pretty easy to get a bit of some variety going under the context it has. I quite like it in general, since stealing an entire department under someone's nose never really gets old, honestly.

Previous bans (while this will not affect your application lying about it will):
I've previously had a deserved 24 hour ban for handing out AA as a non-antag clown. I was still learning the culture of at least the RP servers here at the time, and i missed the very important line in the RP rules disallowing anything more than a minor crime for non-antagonists. This was on a pretty hectic round for security too, so naturally, a ban at that point gave me some time to re-read the bit of the rules i missed there and just realize in general why that was a bad idea too. Since then, i've done the same bit as an antagonist to a much better reception.

Regardless of how this app goes, i'd like to say you all got a pretty cool codebase with a pretty cool server i've seen evolve quite a bit for the better throughout the years, and it's in a really good state right now. So with any luck, i get to be a part by whatever means of helping it stay that way.
