JolyneTheAwesome HoS application

Usual character name: Jolyne Ngo  space bear
BYOND username: jolynetheawesome

Discord username (if you are on our discord): spacestationthirteen
Recommended by (if applicable): N/A
Goon servers you play: Goon1, Goon3, Goon4

Reason for application: I've been meaning to apply for HoS for a while, and mainly because it seems like a really fun role. I've got about 50-175 hours in security (about a fifth of my playtime, give or take it being a guess.), I'm fairly robust, and also, I play classic, a HoS is never guaranteed to be on classic.

Security experience (300 word minimum): As I have stated above- 50-175 hours on security. I never counted. I've played an extensive amount of security.
My way of security has always leaned more toward maintaining order rather than inflicting harm. While I may have engaged in some foolish actions, I have steered clear of any antagonistic behavior while in the security role. In addition to my time spent in this particular role, I've logged between 50 to 100 hours on other servers, such as Monkestation, where I've also practiced my skills in handling various threats.

I genuinely enjoy playing security; it’s a fun job that allows for a unique interaction with the station. I sometimes dream about the possibility of accessing the armory and distributing weapons and requisition tokens to non-antagonist(?) crewmembers, which could add a twist to any round. One project I made in security was building a teleport hub (not even using the remote button!) before the teleporter changes were implemented, which transformed them into projectiles. This hub was designed to connect various departments, and I used a hand teleporter to navigate back and forth. Although only two people ultimately used it, I found great satisfaction in creating something that could enhance the game for others. It was a rewarding experience to think, "You made this useful tool? Great! But we still have donuts for that."

What I love most about playing security is the sense of authority and responsibility you hold on the station—it's like having a tight grip on the safety of your fellow crewmembers. The ability to step in and assertively say, "Hey, stop, you're hurting someone!" is something I genuinely yearn to enforce (with a bigger, deadlier weapon). I believe every role in security contributes to the overall experience, making it a vital part of the station's ecosystem.

Answer two or more of the following:

What advice would you give to other sec players?: Leave your cloning disk at security, and don't hold your baton out all the time. Losing your baton isn't the end of the world, ever, you have other tools to help you apprehend criminals.
Describe any differences in your playstyle when part of a full security team and when being the only security officer: Giving out kinetics (clock 180) for sec, more tokens, armory gear, other things! Just helping as much as I can, given that I can easily access the armory.

Answer one or more of the following fun questions (because it's important for the HoS to be fun):
Draw a picture! https://ibb.co/jv3xC2m8

Previous bans (while this will not affect your application lying about it will): one in 2024, i'm not proud about it, embarrassed really, it was about AI laws + being salty in deadchat about gangs.

please consider me!!  Boogiebot i know i'm not really important and jolyne isn't a character that everyone knows, but i tried to apply on this one, i really mean it. i've been playing since like, july 2024? i dont know! but i've been playing for a while. 1000 hours is alot!

While I have not seen a lot of you in Security admittedly, I have seen a lot of you in the discord. I've seen you get really heated after a round, I get that it happens to everyone sometimes but I feel as if you're leaving rounds very salty often and I really don't think pinging the player you're annoyed at to send a message in all caps telling them about how they should never do x thing to you is what I'd want to see from a Head of Security. Being Head of Security in a round means that you're likely going to be in the spotlight for a lot of players, you need to be able to handle the stress and frustration that can create.

I would like to see you have more control and know when to step back from a situation where you may get heated before I'd be willing to +1 the application. I wouldn't be comfortable with you as a Head of Security currently. -1 for now.

I haven't seen much of you in security, but I can corroborate that what has already been said here is still happening. Very recently, I have noticed you getting frustrated at the game in discord when things don't go your way, to the point of calling out specific players after the round has ended. This is an extremely dangerous quality to have as a head of security, the things-will-not-go-your-way role. If you are serious about this application, take this to heart: it's just a game, and sometimes you just have to let things go. Nothing that happens here is worth tearing other people down over.

I just witnessed you in a round as spy thief kill multiple people via monkey barrel including a security officer and when one of these people got cloned and attacked you you complained on the general radio and over cargo announcement about them "validhunting", you were an antagonist and had killed someone, they are fully entitled to want to get back at you for that. Seeing as you have been banned in the past for being salty I don't think you took that ban to heart and improved as it as this is consistent behaviour. I used to think similarly but like rats said, "It's just a game, sometimes you have to let it go, if you get frustrated take a step away for a moment and remember everyone's just trying to have fun and theres a human behind every player.

Hey Jolyne, this is entirely feedback-based and not an -1 or +1. I watched a couple of rounds but I think before anything else and to be useful to you there's a few things that I think might be getting in the way of some great qualities you have as a player that could be easily addressed with the amount of energy and drive you have as a person. However, this is entirely my personal opinion, I'm not a security player and it's perfectly fine to disagree with it.

I'm not going to cover what others have mentioned here so far as it would just be re-treading old ground that while valid I think you're smart and know how you can listen to and address that feedback yourself. I do think they have some important points to listen to but I think the key part behind them is that you're from what I can tell a passionate person. This at times can fuel some really positive events, from what I've seen of you on both discord and from some occasional interactions when you're having a good time you are happy to share and include that with others.

I've seen you react with great improv to events in game. However I think you also can occasionally let that drive you to react negatively to negative events more strongly than you'd like when they happen, and they will happen sometimes in game and elsewhere. HoS is one of those roles where the potential for that happening only increases as your team looks to you to set an example of how to react to problems, and you are going to get some antags who also get upset however unreasonably that things have not gone their way and direct it at you.

To very briefly dip into a pseudo endorsement: you're perfectly capable and skilled, it's only that I don't know how you'll take the bad days of being a HoS which every HoS I know says happen. Those same HoSs will have ways to brush that off without reacting, to let a bad round be something to learn from, or laugh about, or just forget and move on.

I'd recommend personally before anything else finding a really good way that works for you to cope with handling when thing go poorly: whether its just putting your hands up and going and doing something else, refocusing on something you feel you can be productive in, or something else that helps you venting in public. I have been personally watching and following your work on the plantstation project which frankly I wish I had an ounce of the same drive you have work at the pace you've been going at and honestly I really like the idea of a biofuel-based station. It's great to see you're beginning to run testing sessions for it. I think this is a example of you using your personal passion in a really constructive and beneficial way and channelling that energy you have into something great. Seeing that drive put towards showing you can handle things magnanimously  when they're not going your way (unfairly or not) would I think go a long way of putting some concerns you've seen so far to rest.

Hope this is useful, and again if you disagree with what I'm saying that's fine.
