Radio Show Hosts need more crew interaction
#1
In my time of playing as a radio show host, i found radio hosts to be a bit limited on how they can interact with the crew when they're alone and nobody wants to come over and/or help.
so, i figured id think of a few solutions.
1. Bank Transfer Computer
somewhere in the back, you can scan your ID to send money to any active bank account, in the case the AI/HoP doesn't know how to, or just isn't present.
2. playing recorded tapes over comms
i've tried a few times, but the tape recorders aren't picked up by any microphone, sad. perhaps a mounted tape player somewhere that directly broadcasts its contents over radio?
3. making extra discs / a more reliable way to get them?
sometimes, the crew wants songs the radio host doesn't have. a machine that can (very slowly, like 4-8 minutes) print discs that you may not have, or just a cargo order for one or two extra record sleeves would greatly alleviate this issue (though the former solution might add a bit more work to the radio station, which i wouldn't mind)
EXTRA - while not a crew issue, getting cargo is a long process
get on your pod, go to the ship, go to cargo, buy cargo, drag it all the way back to the crew podbay, put the cargo in your pod, go back.
why not have a telepad & cargo transporter on the radio ship? (admittedly, this makes it even more vulnerable.. but that's the price to pay for fast deliveries i suppose)

DJ's aka Radio Hosts are a flavor job who get the most out of their job in RP.

Unlike the Chaplain wich is a staple job. You do not need a Radio Host for the shift for anything really and chaplain is already cutting it as they are only staple since they countered vampires and wizards and wraiths.

THAT SAID.... I would like to be able to do MUCH MORE as a DJ.
As it stands now.... there is too much down time with you having to talk... what I would want really...

Is for the DJ to give incentives to the crew to interact.
Like maybe they can give prices for quizes and such. Or be a total shmuck and keep it for themselves.
(Wich will tip off security saying: The radio host is conducting illegal prize trade XD)

Not too much though, but something just silly and fun, like: "Today we have a prize in the studio for the 1st person to come here and deliver me a glazed donut. The prize is a cartoon horn!"
(A horn that goes AWOOOGAAAH)
You know... something simple they can decide and have the prizes be inaquise at best.
For example:
- Skateboards
- Instruments that are rare
- Specialized food
- Rubber chickens
- Other silly stuff that staffies want.
- Rare figurines for the collectors?

You know.. stuff that aren't needed to be obtained but fun.

That's the only thing I want. Otherwise The Radio Host shouldnt get more then this. Also suggestion 2 is 100% fair.

Really like the idea of radio station having a transport pad, would be neat. Also, being able to get more discs definitely feels like a thing that should exist.

Give em some kind of camera drone they can operate for reporting on things remotely.

Some way to send and receive mail and packages. Receive fan mail and mail out prizes.

I think it would be nice if there was a way for station crew to make audio tapes or records and send them to the radio station to be broadcast. Imagine the Detective mailing off recorded evidence as an insurance plan. Maybe just an actual recording studio on the radio station? Maybe even expand it to film and print journalism as well?

honestly i wouldn't mind if the radio ship got expanded / remade with giving the radio show host more tools / work in mind, most of the rooms you won't use because you're busy doing the only entertaining thing there is to do (sitting at the mic and talking to crew)

I legitimately think the opposite but admit it's all debatable: give the radio host the tools to broadcast on the go: A hookup mic an wearable broadcaster. Let them be the reporter on the ground. Shove the mic in people's faces and broadcast across the station. Sure, there's the TV/Camera network, but I want my radio hosts on the ground reporting direct and able to do it live on the radio channel.

Why? Because it gives radio hosts another avenue that incidentally I'm likely to appreciate personally when I'm doing a job role that keeps me in one place for a lot of the shift. It gives the radio host -direct- engagement. It makes them more likely to get eaten/killed/exploded on scene too, and it -also- gives antagonists a nice free person to potentially steal for a hostage situation who -also- has a nice platform to tell people about it. You can do this at the radio station too of course, but this way instead of a fixed location it could be anywhere.

In less violent terms, it also lets radio hosts make use of a station area for a competition. It's a bit simpler and easier to source potential contestants on station than relying on people (and ferrying materials for construction) to you.

In short: give Radio hosts some kind of portable radio kit for reporting broadcasts, if they want to engage with the crew directly that way they can. Vox Populi vox d-URK!

Sounds like you want to merge the journalist random job with the radio host, which I honestly agree with these jobs have very little to do independently, radio host has tools to spread the news but no way to get the news, journalist is all about getting the news but has very few ways to spread it.

J'accuse! You have seen through my extremely poorly disguised thoughts on the matter. Given that we can't actually expect the two to regularly join together yes basically. Better yet, put the mobile equipment IN the radio lab so the journalist can nick it. Do both. I don't know, just give -someone- a mobile microphone on the ground.

Honestly, yeah, but I think there's a lot of room for just building out a bunch of gimmick jobs related to creating media.

We've already got Radio Host, Journalist, Actor, Musician. Arguably you could toss Artist & Food Critic in there. You could just start having those roles spawn there in the break room or something.

Build out the radio station more to include some stages with customizable props and set pieces, add a control booth to create channels linked to the TV. You could have multiple channels for each set, or use multiple sets and have multiple cameras set to one channel so you could cut from camera to camera for the broadcast.

Maybe give em some kind of Special News Pod they can load equipment to when they want to go out in the field.

not too sure about the teleporter since it's a one-way iirc, but i do want one of those cargo teleport pads that the handheld cargo transporters use for sending stuff, that way QMs can just directly send shipments to the radio station without having to go out of their way to bring it by pod. looks great though

I very much think this looks very cool and would be very good (most notably the printing press for journalist since some maps lock it behind chapel access). Will say that a pod fab should probably be added if you're going to have more than 1 person on a ship with only 1 pod, even if the command tele technically also works.
