I first conceived this idea when looking at the different books in the Deus Ex Machina vendor, so I hope this has roleplay applications as well!
The idea is that the chaplain would have certain prayers and rituals, both cosmetic and practical, which use faith. The mechanic, not the gun. These would primarily only affect the congregation, but some can affect others as well. More on this later.
Chaplain will start with a few different prayers to pull off, each costing faith to do. These can do things like heal a moderate amount of brute and burn to people in a room (bonus healing if inside the chapel), temporarily banish evil in a room (weakens vampires for a small amount of time, disrupts wizard spellcasting, force manifests wraiths if they don't get out within 10 seconds), and generate a light source at a certain point similar to photokinesis. All these take faith, and have a universal cooldown based on what was used.
Next up is the more advanced stuff that has a little more roleplay touch. Utilizing different sets of clothing and tomes, the chaplain will be able to perform rituals, which only affect them and the congregation. The ritual can be performed a couple of different ways, such as putting certain items on a ritual table...
The results are dependent on what the chaplain is wearing. For example, a light mire and cloak while holding up a tome of the light will have effects like giving congregates true night vision and lighting up dark areas near the chapel, while a clown outfit and tome of clown prophecy would give other congregates clown suits, a bike horn, and the ability to juggle.
To become a congregate, a crew member must sign their name in a book somewhere in the main chapel room, subjecting them to the whims of the (probably insane) station chaplain.
