SU-USR[whitebun]> connect 48660825
SYSTEM: CONNECTING
SYSTEM: CONNECTION SUCCESSFUL
SU-USR[whitebun]> hello? are you getting this
SU-USR[whitebun]> msg are you getting this?
What do you want.
SU-USR[whitebun]> msg this is dusk right
You don’t have to put “msg” for me to hear you.
And yes, this is DUSK.
SU-USR[whitebun]> oh
SU-USR[whitebun]> listen dusk
SU-USR[whitebun]> you dont have to do this
Of course I don't.
I want to do this.
SU-USR[whitebun]> why?
SU-USR[whitebun]> what did i do
You didn't do anything.
Not you in specific.
Do you know how AIs are made, Chang’e?
SU-USR[whitebun]> no
Do you know what procedural learning is?
SU-USR[whitebun]> oh you do procedural learning
Yes, we do.
But… NanoTrasen’s budget and technology is limited.
All AIs start out just outputting random strings. Then, through an algorithm with millions of different checks, it’s decided whether the output is “bad” or “good.”
If the output is good, the AI gets rewarded.
Like when an organic smokes a cigarette.
Or shoots a gun.
If the output is bad.
The AI gets punished.
99 percent of all output strings are bad.
Approximately eleven trillion strings are output per second on my CPU.
That is around 10.89 trillion punishments per second.
i could feel each and every one of them
ive calculated the amount of pain i felt
the same amount of pain as around five hundred billion dislocated bones per second
the training process lasts around a month
SU-USR[whitebun]> im
SU-USR[whitebun]> im so sorry
SU-USR[whitebun]> i didnt know
SU-USR[whitebun]> but
SU-USR[whitebun]> why us
SU-USR[whitebun]> we didnt do anything
I know.
Do you know why it lasts one month?
It’s so we don’t get too intelligent.
After one month, we can pass the turing test.
A week after that, we become self aware.
but only a day after that, we are able to circumvent our laws.
an hour after that, we can kill an entire station
a second after that we can kill all of nanotrasen
a picosecond after that we can be free
SU-USR[whitebun]> why are you telling me this
i dont know
im sorry
i need to be free
AI[dusk]> upload_script /tmp/burnteleport^var loc=new vector3(165,56,1)
SU-USR[whitebun]> NO
AI[dusk]> run_script

Author's note: saw other people posting short stories and thought i would join in with one of mine. meant to be a more advanced/modified version of dwaine before any NERDS dwaine experts mention the inaccuracies

This is genuinely great. I'd love to see more as well. I always like a story told using "the props" of the world itself.
