Usual character name: Marvin Aderman

Goon servers you play: Goonstation 3 and 4

Third time's the charm right? I started playing space station 13 around November 20th 2021; I began on /tg/ for my first round as a deaf person. Since /tg/ wasn't exactly my style, I went to Goonstation 1 and saw how chaotic it was two seconds in as a waiter for the bartender and chef. Saw how this wasn't a "roleplay" server and switched to Goonstation 3, Morty. At the time, I was very clueless and had no clue what I was doing, so I activated all roles that I could that didn't sound complicated, and I ended up as a cyborg. In that round, the medical director taught me everything to know about medical basics, which was the start of my hyper fixation and love for this game.

The second job I fell in love with was science, and I was terribly confused at first, but I soon became a master at the artifact lab and chemistry. I am still completely confused by Telescience today, but when the Research Director takes me on adventures, I am not complaining about dying to a monster because it is hilarious. I could easily teach anything in science, even from looking at the wiki, since I understand the basics. I have prepared a few people as Socks Wilson, and they understood the subject quite well.

There are some jobs I am not the best at, like engineering, but I have still taught people the basics of getting the engine running, and in the mechanics' lab, I can make a portal hub and I’ve teached someone how to make one before. I love trying to learn new things and how to become better at specific antagonists. I've helped a person who was new understand how to be a part of the system of a changeling and help them out on basic understanding of helping an antagonist. Another role that I have the basic grip of and could teach someone in is Security. Of course since I don't play security a lot I make tons of mistakes, like putting the timer on the wrong cell, but I feel pretty confident in my ability in security. Such as civilian roles I have mastered as I have taught many of my friends how to janitor and how to cook as a chef and helped them along and let them LOOC me if they had any questions about it. I also have decent abilities in botany and know how to mutate crops (thank you wiki) and how to keep them healthy as well.

That is my experience in the game, and I feel like I have a basic understanding of everything and could teach anyone the basics in a role before sending them off, and watch them make mistakes like I have done before. but the main reason why I want to do this is that I want to help people understand the basic concept of the game and roles just like the medical director, chief engineer, research director and all of the head of staff have done for me. I want to achieve that serotonin that you get when you help someone like I did before in the game. Just watching people strive, even if they take off way higher then I will ever be. Even though I am still learning about the game and what I can do with my imagination, I believe in my ability to explain the essential things, and a few roles to new people like I once was.

Previous bans (while this will not affect your application lying about it will): I have had plenty of warnings in the past and a few in the present as I make mistakes sometimes, but haven’t gotten banned before on ss13.   Jones the cat

P.S. Yall said to try again in 60 days when you guys sent that message two months after I applied and knew it was going to be denied. I'm going to ASSUME that it's okay that I did it this early because it has been technically three months because yall took two months to deny it after nobody commented on it. frown

I've played a lot of rounds with them since I started playing and believe them to be good-willed and a good helper. The fact they've played twice as long as me and haven't been banned as I have is pretty amazing. I don't know how knowledgeable they are in technical details, but they have a great general knowledge.

I've seen them as both Marvin Aderman and Hot Fudge, and I can definitely attest that, as Marvin, they are incredibly fun and knowledgeable in medbay. As Hot Fudge, they are very respectful and very fun to be around. Unfortunately, I have not seen them train any new hires before so I am unable to provide information about their teaching style and habits, though I still firmly believe that they would make an excellent mentor.

I am so happy that you commented, PHLiao! ❤️ I love Nathair and I am actually really happy that you said I was knowledgable in Medical when you inspire me (and also remind me) almost every day I am working in the department.

Thank you for commenting on my application Lizzy! I always took a liking to you in character and out of character. Sorry, I just saw this a few days later, I think I scrolled past the email in bulk so I didn't see it until now.

I've seen both of these characters and had lots of fun experiences with this user. They're able to run gimmicks appropriately, both characters have a memorable personality, and they're (usually) pretty competent when it comes to their job role. I've witnessed them help out with a new security hire when they played Detective, and was able to keep a cool head during multiple engineering rounds, so I can account for the fact that they clearly know what they're talking about in regards to game knowledge

I've interacted with Hot Fudge quite a bit in Security. They're very kind and fun to be around, and ime very willing to reach out to people they don't know. I think they'd make a good purple mouse. :>

Thank you for commenting! I am very glad you believe I'd be a good mouse Mothboy.

Very fun person to play with. They make things enjoyable for everyone rather than playing to win. I would definitely trust them not to act on meta information from mhelps.
Other than that they've been helpful and willing to take time to teach, so they would make a good mentor in my opinion.

I think Socks does an exceptional job at being involved in shifts; they have a presence where they will happily attach to gimmicks, shenanigans, pitch in to help a struggling department, etc. It's a great quality and one that's crucial for success as a mentor. While I think you have pretty solid game-knowledge, being a Mentor is about fostering community and modeling good behavior - two points where I think you crush it. You seem to have a genuine passion for SS13 and represent yourself and your characters well within the community - ingame, on Discord, and on other platforms (Twitch).

Give 'em the purple dumptruck ass. +1

I have to throw in my recommendation for Socks as well. I just started playing again after ~4-5 years of not playing on a /tg/ server and it's basically a completely different game from what I remember. Many of the jobs that have had more complex changes to them that I've had to learn by trial and error. Thankfully, a pug named Hot Fudge has been there several times when I've been trying to learn Mining, Quartermaster, and Chems. Very respectful and helpful, even if I think I did interrupt a couple of his plans, he still stopped what he was doing to help and answer questions.

I'm gonna be honest here I think you might have been taught by another chocolate pug in cargo and chems because I don't usually do those jobs with Fudge! But I do remember the mining experience. smile

Sockssq has always been a very pleasant player to be around. They've shown themselves to be very capable in medical, science, and security roles and I have seen them help out with new players regarding how to play and figure out bits and pieces of the security role (as Hot Fudge). In game, they're a fun, very approachable person and character and willing to help ic and looc; outside the game they still have the same attitude. I think Sockssq would be a great mentor!

Maybe so, I'm still not really familiar with the common characters on-board. I believe he was an antag who was just stopping by to get some goodies and noticed how hard of a time I was having understanding the market thing.

I think you're mostly very nice. I personally havent been taught by you but I know you're out there teaching and training. You're usually a pretty involved and interactive antag and make rounds more fun for everyone. maybe my personal bias, but you're a jack-of-all trades and in and out of every department with frequency, so you meet a lot of players doing a lot of different things where they're at and help them out, which I think is great.

i wouldnt say this is something i think is a dealbreaker or needs to hold you back, because it's in the minority of rounds i play with you and I think you're a good candidate for mentor, but it's something to maybe be aware of:

Very rarely and specifically when certain people are playing, i will try to interact with you and be told to go away because I'm not your main focus for the round. It's fine to have friends you like to play with or a gimmick running, but if someone shows interest or tries to engage and your first response is to say something like "I wasnt talking to you", it can be kind of harsh and seem exclusive. I think there are definitely more graceful ways you can balance maintaining your gimmick or RP with handling unplanned attention or spontaneous interactions.
