Drop objects in Port-a-brig and Port-a-medbay and it's gone.

Dropping objects while you are in a Port-a-brig and a Port-a-medbay makes them disappear forever.

Annoying if you slip or someone use a flash on you right before you enter one of these device.

Also abusable by criminals put into the Port-a-brig as they can easily get rid of contraband by dropping it in the port-a-brig.

Because of this "feature" I never use the port-a-brig. I'm sure a few other security players feel this way, given that the port-a-brig remote is usually untouched for the entire round.

Who cares if you don't actually get their traitor shit? You've caught someone doing wrong. The port-a-brig lets you bypass the risk of some idiot dragging your prisoner away, and if they were in fact a traitor, they've lost their key edge to save their ass.

Its a win-win.

Said "traitor shit" might be the only reason why they are in trouble, for they were seen brandishing something such as an emag. If someone can get rid of all evidence that they are a traitor, then you have no proof that they are a traitor. However this only applies if possession is their only known crime.

Shouldn't none of this be a problem if you actually cuff them so they can't drop anything because they can't put it in their hands?

Exactly, you are supposed to handcuff the person you are placing into the port-a-brig.

If you just plop people in there without cuffing them first you deserve to lose that evidence.

People can resist and remove the handcuffs while in the Port-a-brig.

Considering that people in a locked port-a-brig are just as stranded as someone who's bucklecuffed, if you leave someone in the Port-a-brig long enough for this to be a problem you are a bad Officer.

Also I think the larger reason the Port-a-brig is never used is because few people understand how to properly use it. Even on the SA thread there were a few people complaining that it was useless because captives could just walk out and escape, not knowing that you were supposed to lock the fucking thing with your ID.

there was a funny round recently where sec managed to stuff a changeling into the portabrig and send it back to their office, but as everyone was going nuts trying to deal with all the neurotox victims and other madness that it just sat there the entire round, the changeling futilely using mimic voice over the radio to try and make someone let it out

pods have the same problem

This also happens in cryo cells (tubes imo) in medbay, if you remove apparel or incidentals.

they actually don't. If you drop something in a pod it comes with you when you exit
