Cheese for Mentor Mice

I think the biggest problem is it's not particularly intuitive, and people dropping items intentionally or otherwise (sometimes including cheese) happens all the time.  How do you make the system tell the difference between a staffie slapping cheese on the table and an HoS being slipped by the clown while enjoying their favorite snack?

i thought about that and a particular image popped into my head



acquire cheese
find mousehole
use cheese on hole
???
profit

however this seems to have a problem (or at least, is a problem in my eye) that this isn't very well communicated to new players (much like the mentor mouse thing, in my opinion). how would they think to know holding a piece of cheese up to a hole in a wall will (attempt to) summon a mouse that will then provide them all of the mentor-y wisdom they desire
