Swept - Discord Ban Appeal

Summary of events leading up to the ban:

Me and PJB, (the head of Space Station 14) looked into the Goonstation Discord after one of your members reported a bug to do with account registration for our game. This wasn't reported originally by your member, we learned about it through a screenshot from F191 in the mapping Discord.



The Goonstation user who originally posted this issue did join the Space Station 14 Discord, he just dropped a single message and left immediately.



This was pretty strange at the time, but it seemed like it originated chiefly from a conversation had before me and PJB entered the chat.



Anyway, we went over to the Goonstation Discord to see if we could diagnose the issue, since it was unique and a serious issue if true. This was first contact from me and PJB.

After this, things quickly seemed to go off the rails with most of the people in chat at the time bombarding us with questions about unrelated issues. PJB quickly got annoyed as nobody seemed interested in discussing the initial bug report and left the Goonstation Discord. PJB's last messages were a little heated, which I tried apologizing for and clearing some stuff up.

I realize i'm leaving out a lot of the context for these messages and haven't followed them all up with direct links but i've asked someone else to fetch these for me as i'm, well, banned.

The entire reason for our visit into the Goonstation Discord was to diagnose a bug... which probably didn't even exist. After doing a lot of testing ourselves and discussing it we surmised that the original reporter of the bug was lying.

To be honest, it seems like there was a lot of lying and riling up of the Goonstation Discord before/during/after the incident.

Lying, i'm not from vgstation, neither am I/we "bigoted as fuck". Quite a lot of our devs are from vgstation. I'd wager some members of the Goonstation community are from vgstation. I don't think that makes us instantly bigots.

During this, I tried to be as polite as possible. I asked a couple times if anyone had any questions about SS14 and got spammed with a lot of nonsense pings.

I understand your rules, and it's why i've waited a while to make this ban appeal. I'm sorry for clogging up your Discord server that night and making that joke - but in my defense I think your admins could have done a much better job handling the ensuing shitstorm from your users.

Bonus

The entire reason for our being there was confirmed by the original user to "be a joke" by one of our maintainers (Paul) in Goonstation Discord the other day. I personally am not buying this for one millisecond but you might have other ideas.



Paul then went on to question the same user for spreading a rumor that I, Swept had dmd them pulling their access to Space Station 14 following the above conversation in general chat. I have never dmd this person, and Space Station 14 does not have the ability to pull Steam Playtester status from a user. Additionally, this user in the above linked messages literally talked about how they had manually left the Steam Playtest the night of the original conversation.

Why I should be unbanned: I was told by ZeWaka to make this ban appeal after the night, but I left it a while just in case. The situation is pretty scrambled and there's probably some stuff I left out but again i'd like to be unbanned because

A. Being banned from places is not good
B. I observed the Goonstation Discord regularly as i'm a developer for the remake, and Goonstation has lots of good ideas/mechanics/sprites etc.


If i've made any mistakes with this ban appeal i'm sorry, it took a while to compile.

in my defense, you have tools to remove yourself from stressful or difficult to manage situations to prevent outbursts and negative behaviour. purposefully breaking the rules after being informed of the rules is not allowed and this appeal doesnt convince me you wont do it again.

I understand what I did wrong and why I was banned. However there was so much negative behavior on all sides while I was simply trying to help someone who was being purposefully misleading and malicious. Your admins had the tools and they didn't use them.

I'm not condoning what I did, as it was stupid. I simply ask that you look into the context I have provided. Even if this ban appeal is denied, please look into the people who started it.

the action we take as a server against members of our community who have spread false information does not factor into this appeal. ultimately, i dont care about the server politics that landed you here, since who was right and wrong has no bearing on your ban. what you said in your last post was all that needed to be posted on this ban appeal, imo. just a "im sorry for breaking the rules, i would like to be unbanned, i made a stupid choice". i will be lifting this after you reply to this post.
